Dorothy is survived by her daughter Holly Dupont and husband David of Rockwood; grandchildren: Terry Brett Menear, and Kayla Menear and fiance Ben Carroll; great-grandson Andrew Menear; sister Norma Engle of Champion; and special caregiver Kay King. Barbara Ann Olexa, 72, of Somerset
Barbara Ann Olexa, 72, of Somerset, passed away on Jan. 4, 2013 after a long illness. She was born on July 1, 1940 to Ida D. (Sicheri) Olexa and Frank P. Olexa. She dearly loved her younger twin sisters, Jean and Judy, and their families, often spending holidays with them. Barbara graduated from Somerset High School in 1958 and then from California State with a degree in education. In 1962, she moved to Maine where she worked tirelessly for 31 years as a teacher for the Brunswick School Department, primarily teaching 6th grade mathematics at the Brunswick Middle School. She resided most of her life at her home in Topsham, Maine, moving back to her family home in Somerset in 2012 to be closer to her family. A dedicated teacher, Barbara had a positive influence on her students until her retirement in 1993. Barbara was a longtime member of the Brunswick Golf Club where she scored a hole in one, the National Education Association, the Maine Education Association, and the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics. Barbara was an active member of St. Charles Borromeo Church in Brunswick, Maine, serving as a Eucharistic minister for over two decades. She belonged to a family group at St. Charles and was the best friend that anyone could have. Devoted to her family, Barbara spent many summers in Somerset, sharing the care of her mother with her dear sisters and faithfully attending All Saints Parish. Barbara loved her pets, especially her canine companion, Buttons, for 19 years and later her two wheaten terriers, Duffy and Molly, who accompanied her on many adventurous trips from Maine. Barbara rescued Molly as a puppy, and was a supporter of the Coastal Humane Society. Barbara had an amazing sense of humor and had many friends who cherished her optimism and kind-hearted ways. She enjoyed reading, gardening, traveling, potluck suppers and dining out with her church family. Barbara was an avid sports fan, following the Boston Red Sox and her beloved Pittsburgh Steelers. She was predeceased by her parents, and survived by her two sisters, Jean and husband, Jerry Chaney, of Chester, W.Va.; and Judy Uphouse and her partner Clyde Tipton of Columbus, Ohio, as well as nine nieces and nephews and countless great-nieces and nephews. Barbara was loved by family and friends who will miss her greatly. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Robert H. Halverson Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at All Saints Parish, Acosta. Daniel J. Spangler, 35, of Wildwood Crest, N.J., died suddenly at home Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013. He was born May 26, 1977 in Johnstown. Daniel is the beloved son of Gregory Spangler and his love Chris Henderson of Wildwood Crest, N.J. and Kathy Wise and her husband William Wise of Kutztown. He is also survived by his brother Patrick Wise of Kutztown; grandfather, Charles Spangler and his wife Nancy of Stoystown; uncle, Robert Spangler of Somerset; aunt, Michele Albaugh and her husband Robert of Johnstown; and aunt, Bonnie Mazzie of Lower Burrell. Daniel was preceded in death by maternal grandparents, Martha M. Stutzman Geisel and Charles D. Geisel; and by paternal grandmother, Charlotte Spangler; aunt, Patricia Spangler; grandparents, Jean Wise and William J. Wise Sr.; and aunt, Sally Jordan. Daniel is a 1995 graduate of Somerset Area High School and worked as an EMT in Harrisburg, Wildwood and Belleplain, N.J. He worked several cherished years with his dad, Gregory at Ceragem and Health Mate Saunas in the tri-state area. Daniel was an avid Steelers fan and loved country music. During his life Earl worked on the railroad, was a meat cutter for the Acme Market, a licensed real estate broker, and had a great love for farming. Earl’s many interests include: volunteering as a deputy game protector, was a past president of Mountain Field and Stream Club, Roxbury, was on the board of directors of the Berlin Historical Society, and was a member of the Odd Fellows. He was a master storyteller, a wood-worker, painter, and writer. He never met a stranger and he will be greatly missed. James D. "Pappy" Humbert, 79, Somerset, passed on Jan. 9, 2013, at the In Touch Hospice House. Born Oct. 26, 1933, in Milford Township, he is the son of the late Edward and Dora (Baker) Humbert. He was the youngest and last survivor of 13 children in the Humbert family. He is also preceded in death by his daughter Larkie in 2010. Pappy is survived by his wife of 55 years Frances (Haer) Humbert; children Tim Humbert and wife Linda of Rockwood, Mark Humbert and fiance Muoi Liska of Jennerstown, and Lorri Detwiler and husband Mike of Robinson; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-grandchild on the way. Pappy was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a retired Postal Service employee with 30 years of service. He was a member of the FOE Aerie #1801 and the Old Timers Gang. Rev. Paul P. Weber, 95, passed away Jan. 8, 2013, at the Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Center, Quarryville. Born Nov. 1, 1917 in Lancaster, the son of Charles Daniel and Katherine Arnold Weber. Preceded in death by parents; first wife, Mary Stouffer Weber; second wife, Ruth Hossler Weber; sister, Loretta Afflebach; brothers, Harold Weber and James Weber; infant daughter, Virginia Weber; daughter, Brenda M. Miller; son, Paul R. Weber; and four grandchildren. Survived by daughter, Nancy V. wife of William Searle, of Nashville, Tenn.; son, Peter R. He then served the First Christian Church of Somerset from Sept., 1958 through Dec., 1979. Paul was a past board member of the Pennsylvania State Sunday School Association. Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Humbert Funeral Home in Confluence where a service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday with interment to follow in Maple Summit Cemetery.
