Jane Elizabeth (Hamer) Cooper, 86, of Elizabeth Township, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2012. Born Dec. 12, 1925 in Johnstown, a daughter of the late Kerby N. and Elsie E. Williamson Hamer. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Donald R. Cooper; sister, Anne C. Hamer; and stepsister, Janet A. (the late Robert) Carringer. She was a graduate of Bucknell University where she was a member of the Social Studies and Secondary Education Honors Societies. A retired teacher from the South Allegheny School District, after 27 years of service, Mrs. Cooper was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in White Oak, the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, The Elizabeth Township, Conemaugh Township, Hooversville and the Somerset County Historical Societies. She was an avid Bridge & 500 card player, and also had a lifelong interest in genealogy, working with her cousin Maryan to write two family histories. She loved history and traveling with her family. She also taught piano in her home. Surviving are her son, Mark J. Cooper and her daughter, Amy Elizabeth Cooper, both of Elizabeth Township; sister in law, Audrey (the late Edward) Joseph; cousins: Maryan G. (Stan) Yoder; James H. (Colleen) Williamson; Jack Shaffer and Anneva Jones; nephews and nieces. Also surviving are loving friends and neighbors. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church (EVERYONE PLEASE MEET AT CHURCH) with Pastor Brian A. Evans presiding. Burial will follow in Somerset County.
