Duane F. Bittner, 81, of Somerset, passed on Nov. 6, 2012, at home. Born Sept. 21, 1931, in Northampton Township, he is the son of the late Miles and Pearle (Schrock) Bittner. He is also preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Lois (Davis) Bittner in 2000. Duane is survived by his children Carole Blair and husband James E. of Greensburg, Deane Bittner of Somerset, Darlene Shaulis and (Lee Manners) of Somerset, and Shelley Hay and husband Eric of Somerset; grandchildren Melissa Baughman and husband David, Kelly Perry and husband Steven, Nicole Ferris, Michael Hay, Matthew Hay and wife Sarah, Heather Hay, and Kristi Rider and husband Christopher; great-grandchildren Kelsey and Kolin May, Madison Ferris, and Preston Ferris; and brothers Lawrence Bittner and wife Jane of Beaver Falls and Leo Bittner and wife Dorothy of Berlin. Duane was a 1949 graduate of Berlin High School and was a retired employee of Penelec with 40 years of service. He was a past treasurer of the Somerset Aero Club, and was a member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ. Friends will be received from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. with a service at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 17, 2012, at Miller Funeral Home and Crematory, Somerset, pastor Kathy Hay officiating.
