Daniel Victor Pensiero, 64, of Somerset

Daniel Victor Pensiero, 64, of Somerset, died surrounded by his loving family Nov. 24, 2012, at Good Samaritian Hospital after a brief illness. He was born March 24, 1948 in Meyersdale, the son of Victor and Mary (Fortini) Pensiero. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Anthony Pensiero and sister-in-law Jean Pensiero. He is survived by his loving wife, the former Sherren Elias, to whom he was married more than 40 years, and daughters who adored and admired him, Lisa and Tara Pensiero, both of Arlington, Va. Also survived by sisters and brother, Frances Sasso and husband Louis, Angeline Scaringe and husband James both of N.Y. and Frank Pensiero of Somerset. Also special nieces, nephews, fraternity brothers and friends who will sorely miss him. Dan is a 1966 graduate of Berlin High School, and Thiel College in Greenville, where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in business administration and was an active member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. Dan provided business and personal life insurance services for 42 years as an agent for New York Life Insurance Co. He received numerous honors and awards for outstanding sales performance. He acquired his Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) designation from The American College in Bryn Mawr, one of the oldest and most prestigious financial academic institutions in the country. Dan was a founding member of the Foundation Board of Allegany College of Maryland, and was instrumental in raising funds to bring a college to Somerset. He served as a volunteer football coach for Berlin High School and AYSO soccer teams throughout the years. He was a member of the Somerset Rotary Club where he was past president and was honored as a Paul Harris Fellow in 1994 for his service and tenure on the Rotary Board. He was a member of Meyersdale Elks, Berlin Home Association, the Somerset Borough Planning Commission, and past board member of the Red Cross. An avid golfer, he participated in Rotary, Somerset Hospital and numerous other charity golf tournaments throughout the years. He hosted Wednesday night pool tournaments at his home with special friends from Berlin and Somerset. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Hauger-Zeigler Funeral Home, Somerset, where a vigil for the deceased will be conducted at 1:45 p.m. Thursday. Funeral Mass will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Gregory's Catholic Church in Macdonaldton, with Father Daniel O'Neill, Celebrant. Committal, Husband Cemetery.
