Richard Hammond Stiffey, 75, of Meyersdale

Richard Hammond Stiffey, 75, of Meyersdale, died July 25, 2012 at home. Born Dec. 1, 1936 in Bolivar, the son of the late Harry Covode and Sara (Griffin) Stiffey. Also preceded in death by his sister, Betty Cummings; and brothers: Roy and Harry Stiffey. Survived by his wife of 53 years, the former Audrey Elizabeth Henderson; Children: Cheryl married to Dave Miller, Meyersdale; Lynda Edwards, Pompano Beach, Fla; and Richard Stiffey, Meyersdale; grandchildren: Brandon Hoover, Tyler Hoover, Dakota Stiffey; great-grandchildren: Madelynn, Kathryn and Jackson Hoover; sister: Florence "Mac" Davis, Robinson; brothers: Ralph Stiffey, Rex, Ga.; and Walter Stiffey, Greensburg. He is a U.S. Navy Seabees veteran, having served in the Korean War. Member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Fraternal Order of Eagles 1801, Veterans Club of America #1 Elks, Kennells Mills Sportsmans Club. He was past governor of the Loyal Order of the Moose 76, Meyersdale, and a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Meyersdale Fire Department and American Legion Post 112, where he also served as a past commander. Also a charter member of the Somerset County Parks and Recreation Board. He was a little league and junior legion umpire for over 40 years. Friends will be received from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday at Price Funeral Home, Meyersdale, where service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday. Pastor Eric Shaulis officiating.
