Helen M. Sipe, 90, of Somerset, passed on July 28, 2012 at the In Touch Hospice House. Born March 6, 1922 in Somerset Township, she is the daughter of the late Freddie and Katie (Martin) Weaver. She is also preceded in death by her husband Homer S. Sipe in 1996; and brother Everett Weaver. Helen is survived by daughters Gail Lambert, and Sharon Childs and husband Perry, both of Somerset; grandchildren: Eileen Lambert of Guadalajara, Mexico; Anita Latorre and husband Al of Linden, Va.; Len Lambert and wife Benita of Pittsburgh; Ken Lambert and wife Jana of Pittsburgh; Julie Jacquez and husband Richard of Stafford, Va.; and Jeremie Childs and wife Carmen of Manassas, Va.; and 12 great-grandchildren, who all dearly loved and often visited their Great-Grandma who lived in the big pink house. Helen's main occupation was that of homemaker. She was also employed for four years at the Bender Shoe Company. For many years she was an active member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Rockwood, teaching catechism and serving on numerous committees, with leadership roles in the Lutheran Church Women at the state and national levels. She was also a member of the Milford Grange and was a seventh degree member of the Pomona Grange. She was a Somerset County 4-H leader for 18 years and was also active at the Somerset Senior Center for several years. Helen was an avid quilter and taught quilting classes at the Laurel Arts Center. She also enjoyed crocheting and sewing. She was well-known for the fruitcakes and cookies she made every Christmas season. Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Miller Funeral Home and Crematory, Somerset, where a service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday. Pastor Sherrie Hofmann officiating.
