John William Compton, 70, of Meyersdale, died Friday, Dec. 28, 2012, at his son's home. Born Nov. 1, 1942, in Meyersdale, he is the son of the late Ward S. and Eva (Miller) Compton. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Theresa "Cookie" (Krause) Compton and a brother, Samuel Compton. Mr. Compton was a foreman for the PA Department of Conservation and Natural Resources. He was a member of the St. Paul Wilhelm Church, Salisbury V.F.W. Home Aid, Salisbury Sportsmen's Club and Meyersdale Moose Lodge. He is survived by a son, George Krause and wife, Stacy, Meyersdale; a daughter, Theresa Seifert, Meyersdale; a brother, Jay L. Compton, Compton's Mill, Salisbury; a sister, Glenda (Shultz) Coles, Meyersdale; a sister-in-law, Christina Compton, Centreville, Va.; four grandchildren, Bobby Seifert, Mary Seifert, Eric Hotchkiss and Aiden Seifert; a nephew, Robert Shultz and wife, Murue Shultz; three nieces, Kristin Compton, Jennifer Duthie and husband, John; Melissa Sanders and husband, Brian and close family friends, Fran Coughenour and Sherri Gall. Friends will be received at Newman Funeral Home, Inc., 9168 Mason-Dixon Hwy., Salisbury, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be conducted in the funeral home on Monday, at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Tommy Holliday officiating. Interment will be in the St. Paul Wilhelm Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be directed to the American Cancer Society.
