Mary Ann Deem Walker, age 91, went home to be with Jesus on Aug. 8, 2012, at Select Specialty Hospital in Johnstown. Her journey to Heaven followed a month long illness when she became weary, but never lost her faith. Born Feb. 14, 1921, in Goodtown a daughter of Joseph Abraham and Clara Lucinda (Colflesh) Deem. She joins her parents, husband Leland F. Walker, step-daughter Doris Walker Stahl and these brothers and sisters; Walter, Harold, Raymond, Wilbur, Fred, Clyde, Joseph Jr. and Robert Deem and sister Mabel Deem Walker. Mary Ann is survived by her children: William, with whom she resided, Berlin; James married to the former Diane Boburchock, Berlin; Donna L. Paul and husband Doyle, Berlin; Bertha M. Hotchkiss and husband Ken Duerring, Garrett, Susan J. McKenzie and husband Ray, Berlin; and Lee Ann Coleman and husband Phillip, Berlin; and grandchildren: Karen Stahl Witt, Kermit and Kevin Stahl, Rick and Greg Walker, Deidre Paul Dively, Deborah Paul Sprowls, Douglas Paul, Mike and Harold Hotchkiss Jr., Wendy Hotchkiss Sterner, Matthew, Adam, and Wade Coleman, and Lacey Coleman Lingle. Mary enjoyed nothing more than being surrounded by her children, 15 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren for family gatherings. Sister of Jeanie Deem Romesberg of Meyersdale. Mary is also survived by her caregivers Pauline Hoffman, loving niece Vickie Blake, and friend, Kathy Blough. Mary Ann is survived by many wonderful nieces and nephews. She loved to work in the large garden and can the produce on the small farm in the country where she and Leland raised their children. She was a wonderful cook and delighted in making special dishes to serve to her family. Baking cookies with her granddaughters created many special memories to cherish. She loved to share the cookies with family and friends. Mary Ann read her Bible through many times and was an avid quilter until her eyesight failed. She was a member of the Berlin Brethren Church, where she served her Lord faithfully by being a Sunday school teacher for many years and was a member of the Women’s Missionary Society. Just two days prior to her going home she was able to quote the books of the Bible and recite the twenty-third Psalm with her family by her side. Her Joy Partner at Berlin Brethren for over 20 years was Steve Landis. Mary Ann has left a wonderful legacy as she was loved by all who knew her and was an inspiration to those who were fortunate enough to know her. Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Deaner Funeral Home, Berlin. Viewing from 1 p.m. until time of service at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Berlin Brethren Church, 620 Main Street, Berlin, PA with her grandson-in-law, Pastor Thomas E.
