Dr. Donald Bowman Egolf, 75, of Pittsburgh, formerly of Somerset, passed on Feb. 3, 2013, at UPMC Shadyside Hospital in Pittsburgh. Born July 30, 1937, in Somerset, he is the son of the late Ward and Ruth (Bowman) Egolf. Dr. Egolf is survived by his longtime companion, Sondra Chester of Pittsburgh; sister Shirley Dumbauld and husband Carl of Fairport, N.Y., nephews Barry and Brent Dumbauld and niece Carin Dumbauld; sister Alice Emert of Somerset and special nephews Thomas Scott Emert and wife Melissa of Annapolis, Md., and Timothy Alan Emert of Colorado Springs, Colo., and great-niece Skylar and great-nephew Zachary. Dr. Egolf was a graduate of Somerset High School in 1955. He earned a Doctorate in Communications from the University of Pittsburgh. He was a long-time professor at Pitt in Communications. He was the author of several books, the latest of which was published in the summer of 2012 and titled: “Human Communication and the Brain.” There will be no viewing or visitation at Dr. Egolf’s request.
