Ray Chester Brant, 91, of Boswell, died March 15, 2013 at The Patriot, Somerset. Born Sept. 19, 1921 in Somerset, the son of George Cessna Brant and Hattie Elizabeth (Berkley) Brant. Preceded in death by parents; wife, the former Ellen Marie Clark, who died Nov. 17, 1996; three infant sons; grandson Johnie R. Brant Jr.; brothers: Edward, Lloyd, Emerson, Richard, Earl, Ernest, Guy, Sammy, George, Jay and Billy Brant; and sisters: Margaret Fisher, Cleo Barclay and Mary Etta Brant. Survived by children: Judy Custer and husband Chuck of Hollsopple; Johnie R. Brant Sr., married to the former Tammy Meyers of Somerset; Kenneth Brant, married to the former Nila Sullivan of Somerset; Barbara (Brant) and husband Jesse; seven grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and sister, Dorothy Aultz of Listie. Ray is a U.S. Army veteran of W.W.II. He worked until his retirement as a custodian for JBJ High School. He was a member of the New Life Church of the Nazarene and Jenner Rod and Gun Club. Friends will be received from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Hauger-Zeigler Funeral Home, Somerset, where services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Michael Faidley officiating. Interment Pike Cemetery, Brotherton. Contributions may be made to the Cerebal Palsy foundation. Military graveside rites accorded by the Somerset County Honor Guard.
