Howard C. Firm Sr., 79, Boswell, died Aug. 25, 2012, at home. Born July 5, 1933, in Johnstown, son of Andrew and Margaret (Robertson) Firm. Preceded in death by parents; in-laws, Margaret and Ted Avery; sisters, Virginia Merrits, Margaret Stegel and Mary Murray; brothers, Jesse, Raymond, David, James and Andrew; sister-in-law, Delores (Avery) Popernack; and son-in-law, Stevie Lepley. Survived by wife of 56 years, the former Margaret Avery; children: Howard C. Jr., at home; Pamela L. Firm and companion, Larry Kurtz, Somerset; and Barry A. and Richard L., both at home; grandchildren: Shanna and companion, Josh Matse; and Joseph, Joshua and Ronnie; and great-grandchildren: Ashley Baker and Kyle, Destiny and Peyton. Also survived by brothers, Walter, Fort Worth, Texas; and Paul, Stoystown; sister-in-law, Ida Firm, Tire Hill; special friends: Leo DeLuca, Roger Koontz and "Smitty;" and numerous nieces and nephews. Member of Jenner Rod & Gun Club and Boswell Post 461 American Legion. A 20-year U.S. Army veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars. Retired cook from Hiram G. Andrews Center and White Star Residence. Avid Pirates and Steelers fan. Also enjoyed fishing, bird watching and spending time with his family.
