Willard S. Simpson, 89, of Somerset died May 3, 2013 at In Touch Hospice House. Born May 11,1923, in Johnstown, he is the son of the late Stephen and Rose (Ritter) Simpson. Also preceded in death by his wife, Elaine Yoder Simpson to whom he was married over 50 years, and a sister Wilma Jean Simpson. Survived by children: Margie Heaslip and husband Richard of Mount Pleasant; Vicki Lauver and husband Jay of Williamsport, Md.; and Stephen Simpson and wife Tracey of Somerset; also six grandchildren and two great-grandsons; and special friend, Alverta Luce of Somerset. Willard was a 1940 graduate of Somerset High School, veteran of the US army W.W.II, 99th Infantry Division Association member, fought at the Battle of the Bulge where he received three bronze stars, Ramagen, Rhineland and Ruhr Pocket. He was employed by the B & 0 Railroad and Chessie System for 42 years. Lifetime member of the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way employees. Member of the Somerset County Wills Grange #39. Life time member of VFW Post 554, American Legion, Stoystown Post 0257 and the FOE 1801. Friends received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday in the Robert H. Halverson Funeral Home where services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday with the Reverend Roger L. Forry officiating. Interment in Husband Cemetery with military rites by Somerset County Honor Guard.
