James Ray Pyle, 81, of Somerset

James Ray Pyle, 81, of Somerset, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on May 16, 2013. Born Feb. 8, 1932, the son of Ralph and Ruby Pyle. Preceded in death by his parents and two infant brothers, Donald and Frederick. Survived by his wife of 59 years, Donna June (Barron) Pyle and three loving daughters: Dixie, married to John Kelly, Rockwood; Brenda married to Fred Berkey, Jacksonville, Fla.; and Holly, married to Timothy Hearth, Somerset; also survived by six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was a graduate of Somerset High School and served in Alaska during the Korean War in the United States Army for the special forces. Jim's professional career consisted of being a coal land manager in Somerset County for Fetterolf Coal, Action Mining and Amfire Coal Co. He worked full time until he was 79 years old. He truly enjoyed his work. He lived for his Savior and his family. He attended the New Beginnings Outreach Center and the Milford United Methodist Church, where he served a as Sunday school superintendent, teacher and trustee. One of his greatest pleasures was to sing hymns of the faith while being accompanied by his daughter. He enjoyed golfing and family get togethers. Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday in the Robert H. Halverson Funeral Home, and from 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday in the Milford United Methodist Church, where a celebration of Jim's life will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Milford United Methodist Church with Reverends Kurtis Frampton and John Phipps officiating. Interment will be at St. John's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, family suggests donations be made to Alzheimer's Association, Greater PA Chapter, 1100 Liberty Ave., Suite E-201, Pittsburgh, PA 15222.
