Harry Gerald Friend Jr., 80, Meyersdale

Harry Gerald “Tooter” Friend Jr., 80, Meyersdale, died Saturday, Sept. 1, 2012, at his home. Born June 26, 1932, in Friendsville, Md., he was the son of the late Harry Gerald Friend Sr., and Ruth Adele (Friend) Friend. He was preceded in death by five brothers: John, Robert, William, Thomas and Carl Friend; and four sisters: Lourine Friend, Betty Ream, Bertha Marie Friend and Ada Fay Friend. Mr. Friend was a retired heavy equipment operator with Local 37, Operating Engineers, Cumberland, Md., and he was a member of the Frostburg Fraternal Order of Eagles. He is survived by his wife, Jennie Alice (Saul) Friend; two sons, Tom Friend and wife Janice, Frostburg, Md., and Harry G. Friend III and wife Brenda, Meyersdale; five daughters: Margaret McKenzie and husband Carl, Ruth Friend and companion Danny McKenzie, all of Meyersdale, Betty Wiland and husband Ricky, Laura Bolden and husband Dean, all of Frostburg, and Marylou Marcum and husband Ted, Mogodore, Ohio; one brother, Richard Friend, Meyersdale; two sisters, Helen Nervik and Evelyn Fike, both of Indiana; 10 grandchildren and 20 plus two expected great-grandchildren. Friends were received 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Newman Funeral Home Inc., 9168 Mason-Dixon Highway, Salisbury. There was no viewing on Tuesday. Funeral Service was conducted in the funeral home at 11 a.m. Wednesday with Pastor Randy Haulk officiating. Interment was in Mount Carmel Lutheran Cemetery. Pallbearers were Mike Dixon, Tom Friend Jr., Bobby Bolden, Gail McKenzie, Stephen Friend and Ray Wiland. Expressions of sympathy may be directed in care of the family.
