Eugene (Gene) Richard Coughenour died at his home in Earlysville, Va. on May 23, 2013, at the age of 88. A memorial service will held at Ivy Creek Methodist Church on Tuesday, May 28, 2013 at 11 a.m., Pastor James Thornton officiating. Born in Berlin in 1925, he was a graduate of Berlin High School and retired as plant manager of Briggs Industries (Inc.) Somerset Facility in 1985. Gene was preceded in death by parents Merle Edgar and Mildred Miller Coughenour; two brothers, James and William; and daughter-in-law Patricia (Pagen) Coughenour. He is survived by his devoted wife of 67 years, Miriam (Schrock) Coughenour (Mim) of Earlysville, Va.; son Alan and daughter-in-law Catherine (Katie) Coughenour of Salisbury; daughter Brenda Neckerman of Burgettstown; grandson Ronnie Ford and wife Jessica; grandson David Tichenor and fiancee Jen Roedler; grandson Scott Coughenour and wife Melissa; grandson Brian Coughenour; great-grandchildren, Elijah, Autumn and Mason; sister-in-law Sandra (Schrock) Zentkovich and husband Andrew; brother-in-law Harold Schrock and wife Teddie; brother-in-law Charles E. Schrock; and sister-in-law Mary Lou Miller and husband Orville. He served proudly in the U.S. Navy during World War II participating in the invasions of Sicily, Italy, and the D-Day Invasion of Normandy. He was an active member of Ivy Creek Methodist Church and will be remembered for his kindness and willingness to lend a helping hand. He will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by his loved ones.
