Rita Marie Messina, 95, of Lawrence, formerly of Somerset, died June 5, 2013 at West Penn Hospital, Pittsburgh. Born April 27, 1918 in Cresson, the daughter of Joseph and Filomena Frank. Preceded in death by parents; husband, Michael Marlin Messina who died Nov. 29, 1980; son-in-law, Gerard "Jerry" Smith; and sisters: Ann, Frances, Rose and Nancy. Survived by children: Mary Ann Smith of Somerset; Paul Messina, married to the former Diane Heffern of Lawrence; grandchildren: Tracy Goldberg and husband Jeffrey of Fuquay-Varina, N.C.; Brett Messina and wife Lorali of Erie; Lisa Weiers and husband Lou of Pittsburgh; Rhonda Cribbs and husband Ronald of Cummings, Ga.; great-grandchildren: Colton, Francesca, Paige, Nicholas, Regan, Danny, Connor, Marissa and Gwenna; brothers and sisters: Samuel Frank and wife Donna of Sacramento, Calif.; Phyllis Traino of Ebensburg; Margaret Frank of Cresson; Pauline Nagle of Cresson; Albert Frank of Ebensburg. Rita is a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who devoted her life to her family. There will be no viewing or visitation. A private funeral mass will be held at the convenience of the family at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Somerset, with the Fr. Daniel J. O'Neill, celebrant. Committal, Somerset County Memorial Park.
