Charles "Chuck" Emmett McLaughlin III, formerly of Somerset

Charles "Chuck" Emmett McLaughlin III passed away July 6, 2013 at the age of 69. He was born Nov. 27, 1943 in El Paso, Texas while his father was serving in the U.S. Army. He spent most of his youth in Somerset. Following the sudden death of his father at 39 years of age, his mother married W.K. Tibbles who became his ‘Pop.’ The family traveled the USA as ‘Pop’ worked for Phillips Petroleum Co. Chuck returned to Pennsylvania to attend college following graduation from Laredo High School. While in college he met and married Kay Christner. They moved to Texas to live, work and start a family. Chuck began his career with the General Electric Co. as an electrical engineer in Corpus Christi. He later owned Temco, Inc. He is preceded in death by his father, Charles E. McLaughlin II, maternal and paternal grandparents. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Kay; his parents, W.K. and Leona Tibbles of Lafayette, La.; his son, Charles E. (Jennifer) McLaughlin IV of Corpus Christi, Texas; daughter, Lisa (Javier) McLaughlin-Contreras of San Antonio, Texas and two of the greatest grandchildren, Joslynn McLaughlin and Sebastian Contreras. Also surviving are a sister, Sandra (Jack) Burke of Lafayette, La.; a brother, Bill (Dian) Tibbles of Muskogee, Okla.; brother-in-law, Rev. Jay (Eleanor) Christner of Somerset; numerous nieces, nephews and life-long friends, Robert, Marylin and Jennifer Harrell. Chuck enjoyed drag racing, having built and raced his own dragster, spending time at the lake barbecuing with family and friends, hunting and camping at Normanna, Texas, traveling abroad and collecting trains. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the American Heart Association. Graveside services will be conducted later at Garrett Highland Cemetery.
