Andrew G. “Poppa” Marcinko, 71, Hollsopple, died unexpectedly July 12, 2013, at his home. Born Oct. 8, 1941, in Windber. Preceded in death by father Andrew; and sisters, Mary Custer and Audrey Pearl Dill. Survived by mother Helen (Setlock) Marcinko-Magazzu, Windber; wife of 50 years, Patricia (Krupa) Marcinko; children: Cindy, married to John Telep, Brooklyn, Ohio, Lori Marcinko, Jerome, Andy Marcinko, married to Kelly (Beynon), Boswell, and Kelly, married to Robert Smith, Clinton; grandchildren: Stephanie and Johnny Telep, Tedd and Emma Dugan, A1C Andrew Marcinko, Haylee Marcinko and Wyatt, Tessa and Leah Smith; great-grandson Andrew Kaeden Marcinko; sister Shirley Donitzen, Davidsville; and brother Edward, married to Elaine (Huska), Grazier. A 1959 graduate of Conemaugh Township Area High School. A U.S. Marine Corps veteran. He worked for over 20 years for Baker Division, Otis Elevator in Cleveland, Ohio. While in Cleveland, he earned a fourth degree black belt in karate and taekwondo and also was an instructor. A retired corrections officer for Pennsylvania Department of Corrections, SCI-Somerset, where he was known as “Sarge.” Member of St. Andrew’s Catholic Church, Benscreek, and a Third Degree member of St. Andrew’s Council 11308 K of C and a Fourth Degree member of Johnstown Assembly 954 K of C. Also a member of Jerome Nest 556 Polish Falcons of America and Jerome Post 802 American Legion. Andy enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and at his hunting camp and being in the outdoors. Viewing from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Hoffman Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 109 Church Road, Davidsville, where a vigil for the deceased will be held. Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church, the Rev. Father Angelo J. Patti, celebrant. Committal, SS.
