James D. Miller, 73, New Centerville, passed on July 26, 2013, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Johnstown. Born March 8, 1940, in Stoystown, he is the son of the late David R. and Kathryn (Rhodes) Miller. He is also preceded in death by an infant son. James is survived by his wife of 48 years, Bette (Trippler) Miller; children: Jeffrey Miller, Rockwood, Katherine Mostoller, Windber, and John Miller, Somerset; grandchildren, Joshuah and Samantha Miller, Rockwood; and sisters, Mary Jane Mostoller and husband Adam, Summerville, Fla., and Ruth Pickworth and husband Joseph, Surfolk, Va. James is a veteran of the U.S. Navy in the Vietnam War. He was a former employee of the Trippler Dry Cleaning Co. in Orlando, Fla., and Lamberson Well Drilling and Coal Mining in Somerset, who retired from Pit Stop Beverage in Somerset. He was a life member of the New Centerville & Rural Fire Co. where he also served as an EMT for many years. The fire co. will present a memorial service at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. James was also a life member of the Rockwood American Legion Post 279. He enjoyed woodworking and was a member of the Messiah Lutheran Church in New Centerville. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Miller Funeral Home and Crematory, Somerset. A service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Horner Lutheran Church, Stoystown, Pastor Sue Winger officiating. Interment at Horner Church Cemetery with military honors accorded by the Somerset County Honor Guard.
