Mary (Gerhardt) Scroggs, a longtime resident of Grove City, Ohio, passed away July 27, 2013, at Kobacker House in Columbus, Ohio. Mary was born May 5, 1924, to the late Victor J. and Edith Scritchfield Fichtner in Somerset. She most recently resided at Sunrise of Worthington. She was a member of Grove City United Methodist Church and Past Worthy Matron of Trinity Chapter 138, Order of Eastern Star in Somerset. Mary enjoyed playing bridge and golfing. An artist, she worked with stained glass, pastels, oils and water colors. She wintered in Florida, loved to travel and spend time with her family. Preceding her in death were husbands James Gerhardt (1992) and Ralph Scroggs (1997); sisters Pauline “Polly” Blough, Mable Doak, Joan Varner; and a brother, John Fichtner. Survivors include her daughters Carol (Barry) Lowry and Diane (Stephen) Hedge; grandchildren Britt (David) Lakin, Scott (Samantha) Lowry, Andrew Hedge (Jennifer Goldman), Blake Hedge (Marleeah Orcutt) and Cory Hedge; great-grandchildren Grant and Valerie Lakin; numerous nieces and nephews. A private family service will be held. Interment will be in Somerset County Memorial Park.
