Chester R. Blank, 101, of Somerset, passed away peacefully at The Heritage at Siemon’s under the care of Heartland Hospice on Aug. 2, 2013. Born July 18, 1912 in Hooversville, he is the son of the late George and Margaret (Murray) Blank. He is also preceded in death by his wife Betty in 1997; grandson Jeffrey Blank; sisters Wilma Zips, Eva Pugh, and Dorothy Light; brother Charles Blank and two infant brothers; and son-in-law John Stoy. Chester is survived by his children C. Robert Blank and wife Susan (Sturgeon) of Bloomfield Hills, Mich., James Blank and wife Betty (Koeppe) of Johnstown, Patricia Stoy of Somerset, and William Blank and wife Elaine (Eichorn) of Somerset; grandchildren: Jennifer Bohler, Julia Casadei, Molly Chapman, James Blank Jr., Arthur Blank, Jack, Steven, and William Stoy, and Benjamin and Maggie Blank; great-grandchildren: Meghan, Michael, Jeffrey, Zach, Kate, Laura, Matthew, Aubree, Conrad, Hunter, and Chase; brother-in-law Jack Blank of Flint, Mich.; and special friend Ada Enos and her family. Chester was a graduate of Ferndale High School and a veteran of the U.S. Navy in W.W.II. He was a lifelong barber with 76 years in the profession. He was a life member of the Somerset Fire Department, the Somerset FOE, and the Somerset American Legion. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Somerset. Chester was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing, and boating. He also enjoyed playing golf and had a life membership at Sliding Rock Golf Course. Friends will be received from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Miller Funeral Home and Crematory, Somerset. A service will be held at the First United Methodist Church at 11 a.m. Monday, Reverends Dale Shunk and Arthur Gotjen officiating. Interment at Somerset County Memorial Park with military honors accorded by the Somerset County Honor Guard. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Somerset Fire Department at 340 W.
