Frederick W. Jacobs, 85, formerly Somerset

Frederick W. Jacobs, 85, Johnstown, formerly Somerset, passed away Sept. 14, 2012, at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center. Born April 20, 1927, in Somerset, he is the son of the late Albert and Minnie (Wetzel) Jacobs. Also preceded in death by brothers, James and John Jacobs; and brother-in-law James Walker. Survived by loving wife of 58 years, Mildred (Duppstadt) Jacobs; children: Jeffrey Jacobs and wife Jo Ann (Gray), Davidsville, Lois and husband Kenneth Pudliner, Johnstown, and Linda and husband Thomas Bettle, Leechburg; grandchildren: Matthew Jacobs and wife Brandi (Myers), Benjamin Jacobs, Sara Pudliner and fiance Brandon McConnell, Adam Pudliner and wife Emily (Johnston),Christie and Lauren Bettle. Brother of Martha Walker and Grace Carey and husband Leon, both of Somerset. He served in Vienna, Austria, as a staff sergeant in the Austria occupation forces in 1945to 1946 with the 796 Military Police Battalion. He was past president of the Somerset Fire Department, past president of the Somerset County Firemen’s Association, past president of the Western Pa. Firemen’s Association and also taught fire school at Lewistown. He worked at S & A Chevrolet and Heiples Supply as a cabinet maker. He was also employed at GTE for 31 years retiring 26 years ago. He was a member of the Trout Unlimited and worked with the fish commission for various youth field days. He ran the projector for the Governor and Park theaters in Somerset. He enjoyed wood working, golfing, fishing and his grandchildren. Member of Christ Casebeer Lutheran Church. Friends received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the Robert H. Halverson Funeral Home and from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Thursday, the time of service, in the Casebeer Lutheran Church with the Rev. Dennis Doebler officiating. Interment in Casebeer Cemetery.
