Robert Rishebarger, 92, of Ashburn, Va., and formerly of Colonial Beach, Va., passed away Sunday, Nov. 11, 2012, at Heritage Hall, Leesburg, Va. Born Oct. 18, 1920, in Connellsville, he was the son of the late Harry Benton and Olive Lucille (Pore) Rishebarger. He was preceded in death by his wife and high school sweetheart of 68 years, Helen Marie (McClintock) Rishebarger. He graduated from Confluence High School in 1939. He enjoyed working with motors and taught himself welding and electricity. Prior to entering the U.S. Army, he was employed as a machine shop foreman. He served with the Regimental Headquarters Co., 35th Infantry, 25th Division in Japan during World War II. Robert retired as a configuration manager from the Naval Surface Weapons Center, Dahlgren, Va. He received the Refrigeration Service Engineers Society’s Man of the Year award in 1977 and had worked on the Joint Cruise Missile Project from 1980-83. A longtime resident of Colonial Beach, Placid Bay Estates, he loved boating, salt water fishing and camper camping and was an avid square dancer. He was a member of Colonial Beach United Methodist Church. Surviving are his daughter, Susan Rishebarger, Ashburn, Va.; his brother, Donald Rishebarger, Silver Spring, Md., and nephews, William Scott Rishebarger, Chester, S.C., and Mark Rishebarger, Baltimore. Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 179 Miller St., Grantsville, MD, on Saturday, Nov. 17, 2012, from 2 to 3 p.m. Services will be conducted in the funeral home at 3 p.m. Interment will be in Addison Cemetery, Addison, PA.
