John Henry Zimmerman, 91, Salisbury, died Sunday, Dec. 16, 2012, at Golden Living Center, Meyersdale. Born Dec. 31, 1920, at St. Paul, he was the son of the late Norman and Mary (Wisler) Zimmerman. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Kenneth and Max Willard Zimmerman and one sister, Jean Kemp. Mr. Zimmerman was a heavy equipment operator for Jones Coal Co., Grantsville, Md. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he was the recipient of the purple heart and the bronze star. He was a member of Walker-Harris Post 8769, V.F.W., Salisbury and the Salisbury-Elk Lick Hunting Club. Surviving is his wife, Bernice R. (Schardt) Zimmerman; two sons, Larry Zimmerman and wife, Roseanne, LaVale, Md.; Kenneth Zimmerman and companion, Jenny Fiscus, Meyersdale; one daughter, Donna Broadwater and husband, James, Swanton, Md.; one brother, Robert Zimmerman and wife, Margaret, Salisbury; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Home, Inc., 9168 Mason-Dixon Hwy., Salisbury, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be conducted in the funeral home on Thursday, Dec. 20, 2012, at 11 a.m. with the Rev.
