Earl E. Boyer, 87, Berlin, went to be with the Lord Tuesday Jan. 8, 2013. He was born in Stonycreek Township May 29, 1925, son of Ellis Emery and Pearl Ellen (Gilpin) Boyer. Preceded in death by parents, son Earl H. Boyer, and sisters Pauline Miller and Elizabeth “Libby” Weigle. Survived by his wife of 44 years, Mary A. (Pritts) Boyer, children: Gayla Boyer Adams and husband Charles, Wesley Chapel, N.C.; Gregory E. Boyer and wife Laurie, Reno, Nev.; Jackalin (Hagins) Boland and husband Ray Michael, Bakersville; Randy J. Hagins and wife Charlene, Largo, Fla.; R. Scott Boyer and wife Deborah, Somerset; Jeri L. (Hagins) Phillips, LaVale, Md.; and Anne (Boyer) Onstead and husband Jeffrey, Berlin; 18 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Earl graduated from Shanksville-Stonycreek High School in 1943, after which he served in the Army Air Force. During his life Earl worked on the railroad, was a meat cutter for the Acme Market, a licensed real estate broker, and had a great love for farming. Earl’s many interests include: volunteering as a deputy game protector, was a past president of Mountain Field and Stream Club, Roxbury, was on the board of directors of the Berlin Historical Society, and was a member of the Odd Fellows. He was a master storyteller, a wood-worker, painter, and writer. He never met a stranger and he will be greatly missed. Family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Deaner Funeral Home, Berlin. A memorial service will be held at Berlin Brethren Church at 11 a.m. Saturday, Rev. Tom Sprowls, Jr. officiating.
