James D. "Pappy" Humbert, 79, Somerset, passed on Jan. 9, 2013, at the In Touch Hospice House. Born Oct. 26, 1933, in Milford Township, he is the son of the late Edward and Dora (Baker) Humbert. He was the youngest and last survivor of 13 children in the Humbert family. He is also preceded in death by his daughter Larkie in 2010. Pappy is survived by his wife of 55 years Frances (Haer) Humbert; children Tim Humbert and wife Linda of Rockwood, Mark Humbert and fiance Muoi Liska of Jennerstown, and Lorri Detwiler and husband Mike of Robinson; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-grandchild on the way. Pappy was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a retired Postal Service employee with 30 years of service. He was a member of the FOE Aerie #1801 and the Old Timers Gang. He enjoyed gardening and planting flowers, painting, hunting, fishing, the outdoors and nature, and watching Steelers football on TV. He loved to spend time with his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and cat “Seashow.” Friends will be received from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday at Miller Funeral Home and Crematory, Somerset, with a service to follow at 8 p.m., pastor Paul Liepelt officiating.
