Paul Calvin Thomas, 94, Somerset, passed on Feb. 2, 2013, at the In Touch Hospice House. Born July 23, 1918, near Hollsopple in Conemaugh Township, he was the son of the late Calvin and Emma (Baer) Thomas. He was also preceded in death by his first wife of over 50 years, Arlene Barkman Thomas; brother Myron; half brother Telford; sister Mary; and granddaughter Jennifer Thomas. Paul is survived by his daughter Doris (Thomas) Snyder and husband Jay, Pittsburgh; son Roger Thomas and wife Pamela (Moyer), Winchester, Va.; four grandchildren: Jamie Snyder, Washington, D.C., Ryan Snyder, Pittsburgh, Laura (Thomas) Broderick and husband Alan, Williamsburg, Va., and Kathryn Thomas, Winchester; and great-grandsons, Preston and Logan Broderick, Williamsburg. Paul enlisted in the Armed Forces on Feb. 22, 1942, during World War II. He served in the 46th General Hospital, U.S. Forces, European Theater, U.S. Army in Northern Africa, Italy, France, and Germany. On Dec. 1, 1945, he was honorably discharged. On Sept. 9, 1946, he married Arlene at Messiah Lutheran Church and lived in Milford Township near New Centerville for close to 45 years. After returning from the war, Paul worked at the Farm Bureau in Somerset, then at Henry’s Electric in New Centerville until he was employed as a sales representative for J.A. Williams in Pittsburgh for over 20 years. He was a member of the “Last Man’s” Club in Berlin, the Somerset VFW, and the New Centerville Grange. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Miller Funeral Home and Crematory, Somerset . A service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Messiah Lutheran Church in New Centerville with one hour of visitation prior to the service, Pastor Will Osman officiating.
