Gerald L. Johnson, 80, of Berlin, formerly of New Centerville

Gerald L. Johnson, 80, of Berlin, formerly of New Centerville, passed on Aug. 24, 2012 at the In Touch Hospice House. Born Jan. 27, 1932, he is the son of the late Millard and Edna (Dunbar) Johnson. He is also preceded in death by his wife Mary Jane in 2011; great-grandson Austin Ocker; brothers Russell and Dale Johnson; and sister Deanna Snyder. Gerald is survived by his children: John Johnson and wife Judy of Somerset; Gerald A. Johnson and wife Dania of Garrett; Amy Bittner and husband Doug of Berlin; and Stephen Johnson and wife Glenda of Kingwood; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and brothers and sisters: Winfred Johnson and wife Pat of Meyersdale; Joann Brant and husband Floyd of Garrett; Sharon Phillippi and husband Harold of Garrett; Kay Tyhurst of Freemont, Calif.; Carey Johnson and wife Grace of Astor, Fla.; and Barry Johnson and wife Mary Alice of Markleton. Gerald was a retired Sergeant in Troop T (Turnpike) of the PA State Police. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army in the Korean War where he was a Purple Heart recipient as well as a Combat Infantry Badge and Korean War Medal winner. He was a member of the Somerset VFW, Rockwood American Legion, the Disabled American Veterans Association, the Meyersdale Elks, PARSE, the Retired State Police Association, and the American Association of State Troopers. An avid hunter, Gerald was a founding member of the Laurel Rocks Club of Markleton and the Rockwood Hunting Camp. Friends will be received from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 1 p.m. next Saturday, Sept. 1, 2012 at Miller Funeral Home and Crematory, Somerset, Pastor James Monticue officiating.
