Elwood F. Garlitz, 84, Berlin, died May 17, 2013, at Meadow View Nursing Center. Born Sept. 30, 1928, in Greenville Township, son of Simon and Lydia (Yutzy) Garlitz. Preceded in death by parents and step-father Herbert Fidler. Survived by his wife of 61 years, the former Mary Poorbaugh; sons, Barry, Berlin, and Allan, married to the former Jana Morgan, Oklahoma City, Okla.; granddaughters, Christine and Karen Garlitz; brother Edison (Shirley) Garlitz, Berlin, and sister Pauline Werner, Confluence; and numerous loving nieces, nephews and other family. Korean War Air Force Veteran and retired Federal Aviation Administration maintenance inspector. Member of Trinity United Church of Christ, Berlin, Meyersdale American Legion and D.A.V. He was a former Meals on Wheels Volunteer. He was an avid gardener, loved the outdoors and he always provided vegetables to all the neighbors. He also loved family reunions. Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Deaner Funeral Home, Berlin , where service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Frank Demmy and the Rev.
