Brad Alan Friedline, 38, of Berlin, died Nov. 11, 2012. Born Sept. 6, 1974 in Somerset, the son of Kenneth Blair and Dolores Jean (Stahl) Friedline. Donna was an avid bowler and won three state tournaments and the Iron City Doubles Tournament, and enjoyed traveling to National and State Bowling Tournaments. Robert Rishebarger, 92, of Ashburn, Va., and formerly of Colonial Beach, Va., passed away Sunday, Nov. 11, 2012, at Heritage Hall, Leesburg, Va. Born Oct. 18, 1920, in Connellsville, he was the son of the late Harry Benton and Olive Lucille (Pore) Rishebarger. He was preceded in death by his wife and high school sweetheart of 68 years, Helen Marie (McClintock) Rishebarger. He graduated from Confluence High School in 1939. He enjoyed working with motors and taught himself welding and electricity. Prior to entering the U.S. Army, he was employed as a machine shop foreman. He served with the Regimental Headquarters Co., 35th Infantry, 25th Division in Japan during World War II. Robert retired as a configuration manager from the Naval Surface Weapons Center, Dahlgren, Va. He received the Refrigeration Service Engineers Society’s Man of the Year award in 1977 and had worked on the Joint Cruise Missile Project from 1980-83. A longtime resident of Colonial Beach, Placid Bay Estates, he loved boating, salt water fishing and camper camping and was an avid square dancer. He was a member of Colonial Beach United Methodist Church. Surviving are his daughter, Susan Rishebarger, Ashburn, Va.; his brother, Donald Rishebarger, Silver Spring, Md., and nephews, William Scott Rishebarger, Chester, S.C., and Mark Rishebarger, Baltimore. Eugene, "Jeff" Brant Landis, 87, of Somerset, died Thursday, Nov. 15, 2012, at Meadow View Nursing Center. Born June 21, 1925 in Akron, Ohio, he is the son of the late George and Mildred (Brant) Landis. His family moved to Shanksville when Jeff was six months old. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Jane (Menhorn) Landis, and his brothers Alfred J. Landis of Ocala, Fla., and Donald R. Landis of Shanksville. He is also survived by his five children: Patricia Prezkop and her husband Glenn of Santa Maria, Calif., Jeffrey Landis and his wife Diane (Brant) of Garrett, Kim Landis and his wife Susan (Hauger) of Penrose, Colo., Pamela Webreck and her husband James of Somerset, and Col. Steven Landis and his wife Maggie (Buchwald) of Carlisle Barracks; grandchildren: Kelly and Leigh Prezkop, Jill Deulen and her husband Mike, Erin Webreck and her partner Kelley Quinn, Andrew Webreck, and Sam, Rachel, Luke, and Tommy Landis; and great-grandchildren Luke and Chace Deulen. Jeff was a 1943 graduate of Shanksville-Stonycreek Township High School. He served in the Marine Corps in W.W.II and was a survivor of the Battle of Iwo Jima. He was a truck driver for Cooper-Jarrett Co. for 14 years and then a heavy equipment operator for PBS Coal. Jeff was also the owner/operator of a small excavating business in the Berlin area. After his retirement, he worked as a part-time security guard at Somerset Hospital and later drove a van for the Somerset Workshop. He enjoyed woodworking in his little shop and golfed for many years. He was a member of the Somerset Church of the Brethren and the American Legion. There will be a memorial service at a later date. Orville R. "Sonny" Leer, 87, of Rockwood
Orville R. "Sonny" Leer, 87, of Rockwood, passed on Nov. 16, 2012 at home. Born March 22, 1925 in Somerset, he is the son of the late Orville and Carrie (Parson) Leer. Sonny is joining the love of his life, wife Dorothy (Dwire) Leer, whom he married on June 30, 1943 and who passed in 2008. He is survived by his daughter Connie Ickes and husband Kevan of Berlin; grandson Zachary Ickes and wife Brittany (Saylor) of Berlin; great-grandchildren Tadan Zachary and Laramee Grace Ickes; special daughter Cindy Kolb of Somerset; and caregiver Cindy Baer of Rockwood. Sonny was a veteran of the US Army in W.W.II, having participated in the Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland, and Central Europe campaigns. After the war, he farmed in Kingwood and worked construction before spending 30 years as a highway foreman for Eidemiller Construction of Greensburg. He loved to spend time with his grandson, family, and friends, and enjoyed gardening. He was an avid Steeler fan and loved his dog Penny. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Rockwood IOOF Cemetery, pastor Jay Christner officiating. Military honors will be accorded by the Somerset County Honor Guard. Ms. Mitchell was born Sept. 13, 1940, and passed away on Oct. 21, 2012, in Carlsbad, N.M. She graduated in 1958 from Lake Arthur High School in New Mexico. She worked in the service industry most of her life. She enjoyed sewing, crafts, and gardening. She is survived by her mother, Lorena Hatch; a sister, Betty (Lin) Goode, a son, John (Angie) Mitchell, and two daughters, Sherry (Dexter) Akins and Cathy (Eddie) Owen. She also leaves behind seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father, Daniel Leroy Hatch and two brothers, Darvin Roy Hatch and Charles Ray Hatch.
