Daniel Victor Pensiero, 64, of Somerset

Daniel Victor Pensiero, 64, of Somerset, died surrounded by his loving family Nov. 24, 2012, at Good Samaritian Hospital after a brief illness. He was born March 24, 1948 in Meyersdale, the son of Victor and Mary (Fortini) Pensiero. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Anthony Pensiero and sister-in-law Jean Pensiero. He is survived by his loving wife, the former Sherren Elias, to whom he was married more than 40 years, and daughters who adored and admired him, Lisa and Tara Pensiero, both of Arlington, Va. Also survived by sisters and brother, Frances Sasso and husband Louis, Angeline Scaringe and husband James both of N.Y. and Frank Pensiero of Somerset. Also special nieces, nephews, fraternity brothers and friends who will sorely miss him. Dan is a 1966 graduate of Berlin High School, and Thiel College in Greenville, where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in business administration and was an active member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. Dan provided business and personal life insurance services for 42 years as an agent for New York Life Insurance Co. He received numerous honors and awards for outstanding sales performance. He acquired his Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) designation from The American College in Bryn Mawr, one of the oldest and most prestigious financial academic institutions in the country. Dan was a founding member of the Foundation Board of Allegany College of Maryland, and was instrumental in raising funds to bring a college to Somerset. He served as a volunteer football coach for Berlin High School and AYSO soccer teams throughout the years. He was a member of the Somerset Rotary Club where he was past president and was honored as a Paul Harris Fellow in 1994 for his service and tenure on the Rotary Board. He was a member of Meyersdale Elks, Berlin Home Association, the Somerset Borough Planning Commission, and past board member of the Red Cross. An avid golfer, he participated in Rotary, Somerset Hospital and numerous other charity golf tournaments throughout the years. He hosted Wednesday night pool tournaments at his home with special friends from Berlin and Somerset. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Hauger-Zeigler Funeral Home, Somerset, where a vigil for the deceased will be conducted at 1:45 p.m. Thursday. Joanne M. Warner, 79, of Rockwood, went to be with her Lord on Nov. 24, 2012. Born Sept. 2, 1933, she was a lifelong resident of Rockwood. Joanne is the daughter of the late William T. and Olive A. (Henry) Morgan. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold D. "Buck" Warner and is survived by children: Holly J., married to Randy Newell; Dawn C. "Sudi" Morgan and Dennis M. Warner and wife, Annetta; grandchildren: Chandra, wife of Josh Weaver, Alex, Ashley, Kyle and Otto; brother, Frank Morgan, and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial celebration of life service will be held on Saturday at the Christ United Methodist Church, Rockwood. Michael Stephen Shaffer, 29, Rockwood, passed on Nov. 24, 2012, at UPMC Montefiore Hospital in Pittsburgh. Born Aug. 17, 1983, in Somerset, he is the son of Kenneth and Jolinda (Henry) Shaffer of Rockwood. He is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Walter Shaffer Jr. and Lois Shaffer; and cousin Alicia Henry. Michael is survived by his parents; sister Kirsten Croyle and her husband Devin of Stoystown; maternal grandparents George and Shirley Henry of Rockwood; aunt Robin Shaffer of Bakersville; uncles Stephen Shaffer of Rockwood, Michael Henry and wife Jane of Hagerstown, Md., and Jeff Henry and wife Marla of Somerset; cousins Joshua, Jared, Jason, Matthew and Joel Henry; longtime friend Dr. J. Wallis Marsh; friend and pastor Sherman Berkey; and his dog Milo. Michael enjoyed NASCAR, Oakland Raiders football and spending time with his family, friends and dog. He attended Allegheny College of Maryland. Michael’s family would like to extend a special thank you to all of the doctors, nurses and aides at UPMC, especially Dr. Ivonne Daly. Preceded in death by parents; beloved husband George; brothers: Frank, John, George, Steve, Charles, and Nick; and sisters: Anna Tataleba, Katheryn Rizak, Mary Ross, Helen Burket and Stella Stapinsky. Patricia L. Saylor, 67, Scullton, Somerset County, passed away Sunday, Nov. 25, 2012, at her home, after a long battle with cancer. Pat was born June 28, 1945, in Chelsea, Mass. She spent most of her adult life in Sheffield Lake, Ohio, before retiring to Pennsylvania. Her favorite pastimes include participating in church activities, attending live theater productions, and taking bus trips. She enjoyed her 20 plus years of work within the school districts of Sheffield Lake and Rockwood. Pat is survived by her husband of 42 years John, and her daughters Melinda, Melissa, Melanie (Robert), and Mary. Frances Patricia Blocher, 75, of Salisbury, died Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2012, at Meyersdale Medical Center, Meyersdale. Born May 19, 1937, in Mount Savage, Md., she was the daughter of the late James Henry and Elizabeth (Winner) Weimer. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Rose Mary Ford and Elaine Beeman. She is survived by her husband, Gary B. Blocher; a son, Jason A. Blocher and M. Melissa Friend, Salisbury; four sisters, Mary Thoerig and Margaret Robison, both of Mount Savage; Elizabeth Rogers, Port Bolivar, Texas and Annette Lashley, Glencoe. Mrs. Blocher was a school teacher for the Salisbury-Elk Lick School District, retiring after 29 years. She received her bachelors of education degree from Frostburg State University, where she was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Teacher's Sororiety. She was also a member of St. Michael Catholic Church, West Salisbury and Somerset Co. Maple Producer's Association. She was an instrumental part of the family businesses, Blocher Farm Service and Milroy Farms. Frances enjoyed spending time with family and friends, traveling and supporting local theater events. Lori Jean (Weimer) Conn, 46, of Somerset, went home to be with her Lord after a long struggle with an illness on Nov. 28, 2012. Born March 20, 1966 in Pittsburgh, she is the daughter of John and Lola Weimer of Somerset. She is preceded in death by her father. Lori is survived by her mother, husband of 15 years Reverend Barry L. Conn; sons William Price, Ryan Williams, and Jordan, Giovanni, and Jonathan Conn; all of Somerset; three granddaughters; sister Lisa Barclay; former brother-in-law Michael Barclay; nieces Ashley and Amanda Barclay; and nephew David Barclay. Lori graduated from from the Somerset Area High School in 1984 and the Computer Systems Institute with an associate degree in computers in 1985. She worked at Somerset Hospital for 16 years in the Information Services Department.  She was a member of the County Line Church of the Brethren where she sang in the choir and helped with dinners, VBS, and other church activities. Lori loved to read, cook, and watch the Food Network. She was loved dearly by her family and will be greatly missed. Merle S. Mishler, 82, of Hollsopple, died Nov. 27, 2012 at Laurel View Village. Born May 11, 1930 in Conemaugh Township Somerset County. Son of Walter S. and Myra V. (Yoder) Mishler. Preceded in death by parents. Survived by wife of 60 years, the former Esther Naugle, and these children Mark married to the former Helen Knepper, Dale married to the former Erin McLaughlin, and Diane married to Richard Miller. Also survived by grandchildren Steven married to Kate, Amy, Eden, Meredith, and Adeline, and great-granddaughter Eva. Brother of Grace married to Don Speigle, and brother -in-law Lester married to Sara Jane Naugle. Active member of St. David's Lutheran Church. Merle was an Auctioneer for 68 years and was the owner of Mishler Auctioneer Service. He was a member of the PA Auctioneer's Association and the PA Farmer's Association. Born March 20, 1916 in Milford Township, the daughter of Earl E. and Mary Ann (Donelson) Humbert. Preceded in death by parents; husband of 67 years, Charles F. Burke on Oct. 28, 1997; brothers: Earl, Oran, William "Bud", John, Roy and Allen Humbert; sisters: Edna Foust, Estella Gardner, Janice Humbert and Rosie Yoder; and sons-in-law: Bill Jolly, Stanley "Tiny" Baraniak and Richard Schmidt. Survived by daughters: Arlene Jolly, The Woodlands, Texas; Nancy married to William Jurca, Powhatan, Va.; Caryl Baraniak, Everett; and Linda Schmidt, Manassas, Va.; 16 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and 19 great-great grandchildren; and sister Irene Sarver. Burnetta worked at the former Shonberg's Department Store in Boswell for 27 years. She loved to quilt, fish and garden and was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and special friend and neighbor to all she knew. Her passing will be a loss to all who loved her.
