Harold Lewis Fisher, 68, of Somerset, went to his heavenly home surrounded by his family on Jan. 10, 2013, at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center, Johnstown. Born Aug. 2, 1944 in Somerset, the son of John Harold and Lula Mae (Stahl) Fisher. Preceded in death by parents; sisters: Goldie M. Shaffer, Lois E. Zerfoss, Emily E. Fisher and Nora G. Close; brothers: Samuel D. and Wilbur Fisher; grandchildren: Caleb and Tessa Fisher; and two additional grandchildren. Survived by wife, the former Dorothy Duppstadt, to whom he was married 47 years; children: Julia Kine and husband Jerry of Somerset; Angela Fisher of Somerset; John Fisher and wife Kristi (Weimer) of Dillsburg; grandchildren: Levi, Skylar and Alexis King, and Asher Fisher; sisters: Doris M. Friese and husband Cecil of Chambersburg; Genevieve Hoffman of Berlin; brothers: John R. Fisher and wife Janet of Sipesville; James H. Fisher and wife Nancy of Jennerstown; Eldin G. Fisher of Connellsville. Harold attended Somerset High School and later became a heavy equipment operator and truck driver. He retired 16 years ago from Hard Hat Trucking. After retirement he enjoyed treasured moments with his family and grandchildren. For those who knew Harold, his sense of humor will be missed. Jones Williams (Erickson). In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death her daughter: Lonna L. (Watson) Benn, wife of David A. Benn currently of Shelbyville, Ky.; brothers: Norman, Leslie and Kenneth Williams. She was a member of the McKeesport Alliance Church. Surviving are her husband: Thomas H. Watson to whom she was married on June 27, 1941 in North Huntingdon; grandchildren: Dana L. Benn of Friedens; Melissa M. (Benn) Yachere, wife of Rick L. Yachere of Friedens; Thomas W. Benn, husband of Renee D. (Simpson) Benn of Finleyville; great-grandchildren: Megan L. Yachere, Katelyn B. Yachere. Ryan D. Yachere and Allana D. Benn. Mabel Marie McCurdy, 91, of Saxonburg, passed away peacefully on Friday, Jan. 11, 2013. She was born on Jan. 24, 1921 in Westmoreland County, Bell Township. She is the daughter of the late William Conrad of Westmoreland County and Mildred "Millie" Mabel (Pierce) Steffey of Nowrytown, Indiana County. Married on May 29, 1939 in Greensburg, she celebrated 59 years of marriage with Charlie "Puppa" Roy McCurdy until his death on Sept. 11, 1998. Mabel was a farmer's wife, belonged to Grange and Homemakers and enjoyed sewing, cooking and baking, she was "always doing for others," especially her family. She is survived by her daughter and caregivers, Donna (McCurdy) and her husband, Wayne Deaner of Saxonburg, a grandson, Bryan Deaner of Portland, Ore., a granddaughter Brenda (Deaner) and her husband, Jeff Negley, great-grandchildren, Levi and Olivia of Freeport; a daughter, Darlene (McCurdy) and her husband, Jim Knepper of Somerset,  a grandson, Tristan Knepper, his wife Gladys and great-grandchildren: Joshua, Annastasia, and twins, Darlene and Consuela of Conyers, Ga.; a son Charlie McCurdy, his wife Linda (Krause) of Milton, Del., granddaughter, Andrea (McCurdy) and her husband, Tony Senturk and great-grandchild Aaron of Milton, Del.; a granddaughter, Laurie (McCurdy) Bucka and great grandchildren Bethany and Zackary of Milton, Del. She is also survived by one sister, Vivian Sandors of Bakersfield, Calif., sister-in-laws, nieces, nephews and her friends. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers: Boyd Steffey, Russell Steffey, Earnest Steffey and William Steffey, and three sisters: Viola Neudorfer, Sylvia DeFrances and Ruth Martz. Aileen Rose (Mitchell) Peck, 86, of Somerset, went home to be with our Lord on Jan. 9, 2013.  She was born Aug. 22, 1926 in West Palm Beach, Fla. She was the wife of the late Robert Sharrah Peck. She was also preceded in death by her parents Robert R. and Ivy (Smith) Mitchell; infant daughter Laurel Kea Peck; and grandson Franklin Paul Stairs. Aileen is survived by her five children: Robert Sharrah "Rob" Peck Jr. and husband Rex Dutcher; Andrew Mitchell "Mitch" Peck and wife Jill; Nanasue (Nan) Stairs and husband Ken; Brian Lee Peck; and Kathleen Rose "Kitty" Meehan and husband Tom. She is also survived by her grandchildren: April Melissa (Peck) Reinhard, Evan Mitchell Peck, Heather Aileen Stairs, Brian Edward Peck, LeAnne Dawn Peck, Kari Rose Stahl, and Kelley Nicole Stahl; also three great-grandchildren; niece Marian (Berkey) Hostetler; and special friend and "adopted" daughter Dee Kennedy. Beyond being a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker, Aileen was a 50 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, and a long-time member of the Roof Garden Christian Church. She was an accomplished seamstress and life-long knitter. Aileen enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, and crypto-quotes. She loved animals and was particularly fond of cats. Preceded in death by parents and brother Stephen J. Pavlosky. Survived by wife of 57 years the former Shirley A. Weaver and these sons: Jeffrey Robert, married to the former Carmen Hubbard, Somerset; Jerry William, married to the former Susan Mucciola, Davidsville; David Michael and partner Scott Mason, New York City; Douglas Alan, Blue Knob; and Matthew Stephen, Pittsburgh. Also survived by grandchildren Kelsey, Casey, Jared, Jenna, Kristopher, and Shawn and wife Kristen. He was the brother of Carl S. and wife Betty; Marie M. widow of Joseph Shander, all of Johnstown; Joseph J. and wife Patti of Phoenix, Ariz.; Elizabeth, wife of Francis Dukery; Edward and wife Anna M., all of Johnstown; and Annamae, wife of Tom Metbrick, Oakmont. Robert was a member of St. Andrew's Catholic Church where he was a member and officer of the Knights of Columbus Council 11308, and All Saints Assembly Council #0954 4TH degree, CCHL and Pro Life. He was a 1949 Graduate of Johnstown High School, a  Life Member of AACA (Antique Auto Club of America). He was a former parts and service manager for GM dealers in Johnstown and Pittsburgh. Robert was a Korean War veteran serving from 1951 to 1954. He retired from Penelec Conemaugh Generating Station. Preceded in death by parents; husband William; brothers Clyde, Benjamin, and Robert; and sisters Peggy Sarver and Betty McGregor. Survived by her children: Brian married to the former Cynthia Riddiford, Centre Hall; and Susan Joseph and husband Norman, Westmont; grandchildren: Allison and Benjamin France and Isaac and Simon Joseph. She was a graduate of Berlin Brothersvalley High School and was a retired teller from the former Philson National Bank. Member of Berlin Brethren Church and O.E.S. #138, Somerset. She enjoyed needlework, quilting, gardening, canning, baking cookies, and spending time with her grandchildren. She was the last surviving member of her family. Violet Maurine Hetrick Hady Hovatter, 94, Salisbury, died Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013, at Meyersdale Medical Center, Meyersdale. Born Sept. 29, 1918, in Elk Lick Township, she was the daughter of the late Resley and Florence (Briskey) Tressler. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Roy A. Hetrick, George Hady, and Fred Hovatter; six brothers: Resley Tressler Jr., Duane Tressler, Jackie Tressler, Bradley Tressler, Marvin Tressler, Abraham Tressler; three sisters: Beulah Maust, Evelyn Doerr, Rita Hollada; four sons: twins, Duane and Blaine Hetrick, Dale Hetrick and Lonnie Hetrick. Mrs. Hovatter was a cook and a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ. Surviving are one son, Eugene Hetrick and wife Mary, Warren; one daughter, Holly Hutzell and husband Floyd, Salisbury; two brothers, Donald Tressler, Salisbury, and Mark Tressler, Jarrettsville, Md.; one sister, Marvette Hollada, Salisbury; 17 grandchildren; and a number of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Born Aug. 23, 1917 in Upper Turkeyfoot Township, she is the daughter of the late James and Daisy Galico. She is also preceded in death by her husband Edward Knopsnyder. Ethel is survived by her daughter, Kathleen Gary of Somerset; grandchildren, Richard Gary and wife Kathy of Markleton and Christine Hoover and husband Dave of Garrett; great-grandchildren Cassondra Judy, Ken Judy, Caleb Gary and Jayden Gary; great-great-granddaughter Lexi Judy; and brother James "Bud" Galico of Rockwood. Viola J. Statler, 98, of Salisbury, entered into rest on Jan. 10, 2013. She is the daughter of the late Angelo and Maria (Pannozo) Vitale, of Meyersdale, where she grew up. Mrs. Statler was married to the late H. Kenneth Statler of Salisbury, where they lived and raised their family. She was a long time member of the United Church of Christ, Salisbury. She and her husband owned a dry cleaning business. Mrs. Statler was a member of various clubs and organizations in Salisbury, and for several years she was Salisbury's tax collector and later worked for the Office of Aging in Somerset. Mrs. Statler was the loving mother of three children: H. Kenneth Statler Jr., Fort Mill, S.C.; Cheryl Hopman Stanek, Aiken, S.C.; and Ronald C. Statler, who preceded her in death in 2004. She was blessed with six grandchildren: Christine M. Hopman, Jon A. Hopman, Scott Statler, Julie Statler, Sarah Valente and Natalie Statler and also eight great-grandchildren. Also survived by two sisters, Elinor Nessly, Lancaster and Mary Walker, Meyersdale; and two brothers, William Vitale, Ashburn, Va. and Richard Vitale, Indiana. Born March 16, 1937 in Stonycreek Township, the daughter of Robert Oscar Sr. and Irma Fay (Sanner) Carlson. Preceded in death by parents; brother, Robert Carlson Jr. and sister, Marjorie Carol Carlson. Survived by husband, Harvey George Brant, to whom she was married 59 years; children: Anna Smith and husband Sylvester of Tampa, Fla.; Harvey G. Brant Jr., married to the former Rhonda Bucy of Berlin; Carla Brant and fiance, Vincent Pirl, of Mill Run; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; brother and sister, Barry Carlson and wife Sandy of Rockwood; Dorothy Dwire of LaVale, Md. Dolly worked as a steward for VFW Post 554 for 28 years, also as a dietary aid for the Somerset County Jail and Easy Living Estates. David Warren Sanner, 64, of Markleton, passed peacefully in the comfort of his home on Jan. 11, 2013. Born March 29, 1948, David was preceded in death by his parents Earl W. and Lily B. Sanner and his sister Thelma Gross. He was the beloved husband of Holly Jill Patterson. David was a member of the Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church in Rockwood where he was baptized. He retired from a career as a conductor on the CSX Railroad after 39 1/2 years. He was an active member of the Kingwood IOOF Lodge 1010 and the Scullton Rod and Gun Club. He was an active member of the Somerset County Beef Producers' organization. David had a broad smile and a wonderful sense of humor that he shared with those around him. He was an avid hunter and had a passion for fishing, even ice fishing. He had horses all of his life and enjoyed trail riding and hunting in Colorado with his own horses. He was an excellent cattleman and a dedicated farmer. David was a man you could count on and a dedicated steward of the land. David absolutely loved working outdoors. He worked from "CAN SEE to CAN'T SEE" and beyond. He was creative and courageous; confident and intelligent. David always made the work lighter with his "short breaks" and "short stories." He loved history, especially the Civil War; playing guitars with his family; farming with RED tractors; and lending a hand wherever he could. The warmth of a good campfire and cookouts with his family with home made pie for dessert always put a smile on his face. David will be deeply missed by his loving wife Holly, to whom he was husband, partner and comforter. He also has two surviving sisters, Shirley King of Rockwood and Rachel Townson of Maryland; brothers-in-law; children; step-children; grandchildren; nieces; nephews and cousins. To all those who loved and respected him, be assured David is with his God and Savior. There will be a memorial service for David at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church at 237 Whipkey Dam Road, Rockwood, Pastor Denton Lester officiating. Wayne M. Singo, 87, of Hunker died Sunday, Jan. 13, 2013, in Weatherwood Manor. He was born Thursday, Sept. 17, 1925, in Somerset County, son of the late Dorsey Singo and the late Erma Blanche Ream. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II He was a member of St. Marks Lutheran Church, former member of Samuels Lutheran Church, former president New Stanton Fait Board. He retired from Charley Bros. Surviving are: his wife, Betty (Weyand) Singo; and two children Randy L. Singo and wife Jeffie of New Enterprise; Susan Sheetz and husband Timothy of Hookstown; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a brother Teddy Singo and wife Arlene of Rockwood. He was preceded in death by two children, Karen and Ricky Singo, foster daughter Carol Musgrove, two brothers Robert Singo, Oran Singo, a sister Nelma Jacobs. Harry E. Tunstall Sr., 93, Somerset, passed on Jan. 13, 2013, at Meadow View Nursing Center in Berlin. Born May 13, 1919, in Indiana, he is the son of the late William and Anna Tunstall. He is preceded in death by his wife Martha “Dot” Tunstall in 1989; brothers Charles, Clair, Clyde, Ray, William, and James Tunstall; and sister Beryl Tunstall. Harry is survived by his children Harry E. Tunstall Jr. and wife Nancy of Rockwood, Larry Tunstall and wife Connie of Somerset, Robert Tunstall of Sipesville, and Kathy Saxman of Sparksburg, Md.; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Harry was a retired operator of Harry Tunstall Trucking, and later, Tunstall Fuel and Auto Service on Route 985 in Somerset. He was a very organized, precise person who showed his children by example how to live life. Craig is survived by his wife of 29 years, Sue (Contrillo) Alexander; stepchildren Robert Tirko and wife Michelle of Clearfield, Utah, Sherry Hartman of Somerset, Brooke Ann Ziegler and husband Brett of Roanoke Rapids, N.C., and Timothy Bonus II of Rockwood; grandchildren Kaitlyn, Krystin, Ashlyn, Joseph, and Allyson; five great-grandchildren; sister Sharon Alexander of Somerset; his dog Abby; and numerous other members of his extended family and circle of friends. Craig was employed by Heckman Water Resources as a truck driver. He loved music and could play a guitar, piano, harmonica and trumpet. He loved people and enjoyed spending time among his friends and family, especially his grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Miller Funeral Home and Crematory, Somerset, where a service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, pastors David Cyphert and Barry Ferguson officiating. Harold Gene Hutchens, 77, Friedens, died Jan. 15, 2013, at Somerset Hospital. Born Nov. 1, 1935 in Gastonia, N.C., son of Spencer and Cora (Todd) Hutchens. Preceded in death by parents, infant grandson Bradley S. Aultz Jr.; brothers: Leroy, Ben, Charlie and Paul, and sisters Evelyn, Sue and Ruby. Survived by wife the former Catherine Theresa Jano to whom he was married 51 years. Children: Jeffrey H. Hutchens, married to the former Erica Will of Somerset, Gina Hutchens-Aultz of Somerset, Timothy E. Hutchens of Friedens; grandchildren: Brianna Aultz, Timothy E. Hutchens Jr., Colten J. Hutchens, and Chantelle F. Hutchens. Sister: Mary Christopher of North Carolina. Harold worked for Svonavec Coal and later in construction. He was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church, he enjoyed NASCAR, loved gardening and music. Friends received 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Hauger-Zeigler Funeral Home, Somerset , where a vigil for the deceased will be conducted at 1:45 p.m. Thursday. Funeral Mass will be conducted 9:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 18, 2013 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Somerset, PA, 15501 with the Monsignor Samuel Tomaselli Celebrant. Committal Listie Catholic Cemetery.
