John William “Bill” Mostoller, 75, of Friedens, passed on March 24, 2013 at The In Touch Hospice House. Born July 2, 1937 in Somerset, he is the son of the late Charles R. and Beatrice (Blough) Mostoller. Bill is survived by his wife of 27 years, Beverly (Sheeler) Mostoller; children: Valorie Mostoller and Jay Kennedy of Somerset; John W. Mostoller Jr. and wife Ruth of Somerset; Geoffrey Mostoller of Heath, Ohio; and Randy Mostoller and wife Lori of Somerset; grandchildren: William John Mostoller and wife Michelle, and Kyle and Courtney Mostoller; great-granddaughter Josephina Mostoller; brother Charles Robert Mostoller and wife Janet of Bellefonte; nieces Robin Niosi and Becky Hendrickx; and nephew Scott Mostoller. Bill was a retired pilot for Wheeler Bros. in Somerset. He had a lifelong love of flying he learned from his father, who was a military cargo pilot lost in action over Burma in W.W.II. Bill was the owner and operator of Somerset Airways. He was a former manager of the Somerset County Airport with many years of service. He was a member of Lodge #358 of the F&AM in Somerset and the Jaffa Shrine of Altoona. He donated much of his time and his aircraft to fly burn victims to the Shriner’s Burn Center in Cincinnati, Ohio. Bill was also a member of Friedens Lutheran Church. Also preceded in death by her brothers, Ottis and Leo Baer. Survived by her brothers, Glenn H. Baer, of Seaford, Del., and Allan J. Baer, of Clarksville, Md; the dear aunt of Wayne, Gary and James Baer. Also survived by numerous grand- and great-nieces and nephews. A graduate of Meyersdale High School and a W.W.II Women's Army Corps veteran, where she served in Australia and the Philippines. She worked for the Department of the Navy in Washington, D.C. in 1940 and retired in 1980 as an audio visual specialist with the Naval Photographic Laboratory. Mr. Peck was a self-employed milk hauler for 30 years. He was a member of Maple Glen Church of the Brethren, where he was also a deacon and a member of the Pennsylvania Association of Retarded Children. He is survived by two sons, Ronal Peck and wife, Rebecca, Springs; Terry Peck and wife, Velma, Goshen, Ind.; a daughter, Sharon Hahn, Auburn, Ind.; two step-sons, Chester Otto and wife, Janet, Accident, Md.; Blair Otto and wife, LouAnn, Berlin; a step-daughter, Gloria Borton, Albuquerque, N.M.; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Sheila Sipple, 69, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday March 23, 2013, at 6:25 a.m. at The Villages Hospice House in The Villages, Fla. On Nov. 30, 1943, Shelia was born to William and Madonna (Clapper) Sipple in Meyersdale. She was a resident of Kosciusko County since 1991 after moving here from Jennerstown. Sheila attended and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Warsaw, Ind. Sheila worked as a bank teller for the Lake City Bank retiring in 2004. She was residing in Lady Lakes, Florida. Preceded in death by his brothers: Herbert C., William Harold, James Samuel and Charles Hornig; and sister: Rhea Burt Survived by his wife, of 55 1/2 years ,the former Dawn Schrock; children: Barb Sparr and husband Leroy, Meyersdale; Gail Hornig, Pittsburgh; and John Hornig and wife Sue, Crofton, Md.; grandchildren: Sandi Byerly and husband Craig, Chelsea Hoover, and Chloe Sparr; and great-grandson, Preston DeVoe. He was a charter member, past president and treasurer for 25 years for the Meyersdale Lions Club and a life member of the Meyersdale Elks Lodge 1951. Jake was with the group who shoveled the first dirt for the Maple Valley Pool. He served the community in any way he could. He always cared for others and would do anything to help. Shirlee Rae Lamberson, 78, Naples, Fla., passed peacefully on March 26, 2013, at the AVOW Hospice in Naples, Fla. Born June 23, 1934, in Listie. She is preceded in death by her mother, Leone Landsman, father George Landsman and her brother Dale Landsman. Shirlee is survived and loved by her husband of 62 years, C. David Lamberson, Esq., and her children Susan Blackburn of New Cumberland, Jane Lamberson and husband Richard Swope of Naples and Carol Lamberson and husband Michael Wallace of Ringoes, N.J. She has eight grandchildren: Alyse Blackburn, Ryan Hendricks, Emily Wallace, Eric Swope (wife Courtney), Emily Swope (husband Tim Daugherty), Nathan, Marissa and Joseph Swope, as well as two great-grandchildren. She graduated from Friedens High School in 1952 and attended Millersville University before serving as a telephone operator and supervisor for The Bell Telephone Company in Lancaster. Throughout her life, Shirlee devoted many hours to various volunteer organizations, most notably the Somerset Hospital Auxiliary, First Christian Church and several equestrian clubs. She was first mate on the sailboat Arabella and on occasion, she and David would sail to the Dry Tortugas and other destinations. She was a devoted wife, mother and compassionate caregiver to all she loved. She will be dearly missed by those whose lives she touched.
