Betty Murray, 88, of Salisbury, died Monday, Feb. 18, 2013, at her residence. Born March 16, 1924, in Fayette County, she was the daughter of the late Chester and Sadie (McClain) Patton. She was preceded in death by her husband Walter Darrell “Mike” Murray and one sister, Grace Berkshire. Mrs. Murray was a police officer for Salisbury Borough and also was a server for Thomas Sandwich Shop, Salisbury. She was a member of the Salisbury Firemen’s Auxiliary, Meyersdale Medical Center Auxiliary, Salisbury American Legion Auxiliary, Salisbury VFW Auxiliary, 40 et 8 Auxiliary and St. John’s Lutheran Church. Surviving are two sons, Larry L. Ashbrook and wife, Sharon, Berlin, Vaughn Murray, Kansas; two daughters, Janice Houpt and husband, Sam, Berlin, Kimberly Lindeman and husband, Chuck, Salisbury; eight grandchildren, Jessica Persson and husband Gregory, Michael Ashbrook, Kedrick “Bud” Lapp, Jr. and fiancee, Jennifer, Renee Jones and husband, Bill, Terra Andree and husband, Michael, Katrina Snyder and husband, Marty, Benjamin Smith and special friend, Rachael, Isaiah Smith and 16 great-grandchildren. Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Home, Inc., 9168 Mason-Dixon Highway, Salisbury, Wednesday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be conducted at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Thursday, Feb. 21, 2013, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Ingrid Chenoweth officiating. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the services. Expressions of sympathy may be directed to St. John’s Lutheran Church.
