Lois Virginia Shaulis, 91, of Somerset, died Dec. 27, 2012 at her daughter’s home. Born April 3, 1921 in Connellsville, the daughter of Harry H. and Marie (Festog) Snider. Preceded in death by parents; husband, Bodes D. Shaulis, who died Nov. 10, 1999; brothers: Harry “Tanky”, William, Francis and David Snider and sisters: Thelma Baker, Harrietta Herring, Waunita Sherwin, Louella “Lou” DeWitt and Alice Marie Leininger. Survived by daughter, Melanie Peters and husband Barry; grandsons: Brett B. Peters married to the former Shari Dunlap; Travis L. Peters married to the former Michele Sleasman, all of Somerset; great-grandchildren: Haylee, Garrett, Sadie and Logan. Also survived by special friend who was a ray of sunshine in the very dark days after her husband died, Chuck Morocco. Lois is a 1939 graduate of Somerset High School. She worked at DeVilbiss where she was the first female sales office supervisor for the Somerset division, retiring with 34 years of service. Lois loved her family and was well known in her youth for her love of dancing. Sgt. 1st Class Carl L. Christner, 71, Somerset, died Dec. 28, 2012, at Select Specialty Hospital. Born July 11, 1941, in Shanksville, he is the son of the late Martha Baer. Also preceded in death by brothers, Carl and Don. Survived by wife Gracie (Rubert) Christner; children: Carl L. Christner Jr., Pittsburgh, Eddie Christner, Massachusetts, Linda Sue,  Somerset, John, Colorado, Clinton, Utah, and Eddie, Colorado; stepchildren, Bill W. Stevens and Corie Stevens, both of Washington. Also several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and a brother,  Marvin “Buck” Baer, Somerset. Life member of F.O.E. and the VFW. Donald G. Taylor, 88, Somerset, died Dec. 29, 2012, at In Touch Hospice House. Born Jan. 20, 1924, in Somerset, he is the son of the late Ray Frank and Anna Jane (Pyle) Taylor. Also preceded in death by brother Walter; and sisters, Leona Taylor and Ferne Stern; and childhood friend, Glenn Watson. Survived by nieces, Margaret Murray and Judy Moldovan, both of Somerset; and several great-nieces and nephews; and longtime friend Mildred Sorber. Don was a member of the first Christian Church and a 68-year member of the F.O.E. Friends received from noon to 1 p.m. Monday in the Robert H. Survived by his wife of 47 years, the former Arlene Tunstall; children: Pamela, married to Richard Hause, Boswell; Mishelle Carnell and special friend Chris Walker, Shanksville; Robin, married to Mark Rininger, Stoystown; and Brian, married to the former Janie Armstrong, Somerset; loving grandchildren: Justin and Megan Hause, Derek Dwire, Amanda (Dwire), married to Derek Shawley, Sumer Rininger, David Alumbaugh, Ashleigh, Brianna and Hayley Fieg; brother, James Fieg and wife Ruth, Friedens; sisters, Betty Dwire of Ga., and Sarah, married to Norman Hanson and Elsie, married to Bob Mitchell, both of Stoystown; special cousin Rick Miller, Stoystown; and many special nieces and nephews. Charles Henry Ickes Jr., 65, of Meyersdale, passed away peacefully on Jan. 3, 2013 at Meyersdale Golden Living Center. Charles was born May 19, 1947, the son of the late Charles Ickes Sr. and Dorothy (Kirchner) Ickes. Charles was also preceded in death by his stepson Greg Hillard and nephew Bradley Miller. Charles is survived by his first wife Kay Thompson and husband Lou of Confluence, and ex-wife and caregiver, Janet Ickes of Meyersdale. Survived by his children; Elizabeth Metheney of Confluence; Bob Ickes and wife Beth of Meyersdale; John Ickes of Altoona; Linda Ickes of Confluence; Charles James and wife Kathleen of Antioch, Calif; Amanda Crespo and friend Mike of Somerset; and Darren Ickes of Meyersdale; brothers and sisters: William Ickes and wife Diane of Meyersdale; Dennis Ickes and friend Sindi of Somerset; Donald Ickes and wife Betty of Godfrey, Ill.; Bruce Ickes of Leesburg, Va.; Mark Ickes and wife Lois of Fairview Heights, Ill.; and Shelly Miller and friend Dave of Meyersdale; grandchildren: Jasmine, Misty, and Richard Metheney, Luke and Abigail Ickes, Hannah and Isabella Crespo, Payton Kitzmiller, Casey Ketterman, Gracie Beisel and Giovanni James. Charles was especially close to his granddaughter Hannah. He would light up like a light bulb when she entered the room and Hannah said she wanted to become a doctor so that she could make her Pappy well. Charles always referred to Hannah as "My Girl." Charles is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Charles is a veteran of the U.S. Army and served two years in Germany. He was a member of the Meyersdale American Legion and the VFW. Charles drove truck for many years, traveled many years with the carnival, was an avid Steelers fan and his favorite pastime was playing bingo. One of Charles' most special events in his life was going to California and attending a taping of The Price Is Right. He watched that show faithfully for many years. Charles was a member of the Meyersdale Church of the Brethren. Friends will be received from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the M. Ray Leckemby Funeral Home, Meyersdale. Walter Z. Leosewski, 89, of Somerset, passed on Jan. 2, 2013 at home. Born April 8, 1923 in Black Township, he is the son of the late Stanley Sr. and Stephanie (Laskey) Leosewski. He is also preceded in death by his first wife Doris Virginia (Weigle) Leosewski in 1979; grandson Michael Leosewski Jr.; an infant granddaughter; brothers Stanley Jr. and Ray Leosewski; and sisters Agnes Leosewski and Blanche Kondik.  Walter is survived by his wife Lois Zerfoss; children: Michael W. Leosewski Sr. of Twinsburg, Ohio; Linda Heiland and husband Tim of Clyde, Ohio; James E. Leosewski and wife Judi of Streetsboro, Ohio; and Lori Yanc of Ravenna, Ohio; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brother Joseph Leosewski of Pittsburgh; and sisters Annie Radziewicz of Cleveland, Ohio and Sophie Shaulis of Jacksonville, Fla. Walter was a veteran of the U.S. Army in W.W.II. He was a long-time employee of J&L Steel in Cleveland before retiring to Somerset. He enjoyed gardening, hunting, and fishing. She is preceded in death by her husband Thomas Dean in 2007. Ruth and Tom were avid skiers and golfers who moved to the Laurel Highlands to enjoy those activities. He was preceded in death by one brother, John Harvey; one sister, Betty Little and grandson, Blake Harvey. Mr. Harvey was a truck driver for Delmont-Hearn, Somerset and was a member of Main Street Brethren Church, Meyersdale. Surviving is his wife, Donalee (Sweeney) Harvey; three sons: Joseph G.
