Born July 1, 1922 in Bedford County, she is the daughter of the late Harry and Mary (Lowry) Young. She is also preceded in death by her husband James in 1974; daughters Mary Jean Nicklow and Judy Sleasman; son Harry James Hemming; sister Ada Gerhart; brothers Clyde, George, Robert, and Samuel Young; and a great-grandchild. Janet is survived by her daughter Nancy Romesberg and husband William of Berlin; son Dennis Hemming of Belsano; 14 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and sister Stella Swauger of Grantsville, Md. She enjoyed camping and crocheting, and was a member of the sweet Sixties group in Somerset. Kathleen "Kay" Swihura, 79, of Laughlintown, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2012 at her home. She was born Jan. 1, 1933 in New York City, the first baby born in the new year. She was the daughter of the late Hugh and Elizabeth Keown Spellman. She was preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, William E. Swihura in 1993. She is survived by her five loving children, Elizabeth (Henry) Murray of Connecticut, William (Rhonda) Swihura of Stoystown, Marianne ( Jess) Naugle of Stoystown, Theresa (Brian) Woods of Ligonier and Robert (Beth) Swihura of Laughlintown. She was a devoted grandmother to her nine grandchildren, Chris, Harry, Katie, Allie Austin, Emily, Emma, Carol, and Amanda. She is also survived by her seven brothers and sisters, Hugh Spellman of Ireland, Mary (Tim) Murphy of Maryland, John Spellman of Flordia, Joan (James) Costello of New Jersey, Frank(Rosie) Spellman of Virginia, Jerry (Pat) Spellman of Arizona and Artie Spellman, a sister-in-law, Louise Rut of New York, three brother-in-laws, Ed Swihura, Stephen (Emily) Swihura, and Anton (Ginger) Swihura , and numerous nieces and nephews. She was a member of the Holy Trinity Church, Ligonier. She was a graduate of St. Jean Baptiste High School in New York City in 1951 and pursued a career as a secretary while raising her family. She was involved in various ministries, having served on the Laughlintown Election Committee for many years and the board of the Laughlintown Community Center. She was a fierce competitor at the game of scrabble and enjoyed playing bingo with her friends, and in her later years of her life, she kept her mind sharp by doing crossword puzzles. Family and Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Snyder Funeral Home Inc., 402 East Church Street, Ligonier. A prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home with the The Rev. Monsignor William G. Charnoki. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday in the All Saints Parish, 325 Quemahoning Street, Boswell, PA, 15531 with the Rev. Justin Ratajczak as celebrant. Survived by parents and identical twin brother, Liam George Friedline at home; maternal grandparents, George Lasure Jr. and wife Eileen of Stoystown; uncle, George “Gunnar” Lasure III of Ligonier; paternal grandfather, Ronald Friedline of Hollsopple; paternal grandmother, Mary Friedline of Altoona; uncle, Tyler Friedline and companion Hillary of Ferndale; aunt, Nicole Lehman and husband Keith of Johnstown; and paternal and maternal great-grandparents. Jane Riedel Nelson, 94, died Oct. 10, 2012 in Northfield Hospital in Northfield, Minn. She was born on Aug. 17, 1918 in Pittsburgh. Her parents were Emily Carnahan and John Riedel, both of whom were born in Pittsburgh. Jane went to business school, worked in Pittsburgh and met William R Nelson, whom she married in Columbus, Ga. on Feb. 20, 1943. After World War II, the couple returned to western Pennsylvania, where their extended family carved out a life in rural Pennsylvania, and where they raised three boys. William worked in oil refineries along the Ohio River, ran a hardware store and worked for the Pennsylvania State Park system. Jane stayed home, oversaw the daily responsibilities of family life, and later resumed work as a bookkeeper when the children were older. William died in 1997, and in 2001 Jane moved to Northfield. She participated in the senior center and was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church. She is survived by three sisters: Emily (Donald) Scott of Roxbury, Maine; Dorothy Morris, of Homer City; and Catherine Nylund of Torrence, Calif. She is also survived by her three sons: William (Pat) of Bethlehem; Mark (Faith) of Bedford; and Richard (Jane) of Northfield, Minn. She leaves nine grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren: Ella, Clara and Luke. Services will be held at 2 p.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Northfield. Howard Jr.; granddaughter, Coleen Dawn Younkin; sisters, Ethel Frances Arnett, Dolly Glover and Lily Twell; brothers, Harry and John Arnett. Sara (Betty) Elizabeth Albright, 92, of Meyersdale, formerly of Somerset, died Oct. 13, 2012. Born March 28, 1920, she was the fourth of five children born to Grace B. and Daniel W. Lambert. A 1937 graduate of Somerset High School, she married Lee (Hallie) Albright on June 17, 1939. They had two daughters, Linda Gibson of Kane, Pa. and Melbourne, Fla.; and Brenda and Albert Auer of Timonium Md. and Port St. Lucie, Fla. Sara was preceded in death by her husband in 2003 and all three of her brothers. She is survived by sister, Eleanor Gasper of Johnstown; her grandchildren, Mark Mishler, Kuwait; Michele Oswalt, Alexandria, Va., and Mike Mishler, Woodbridge, Va.; five great-grandchildren: James Oswalt, Alex and Ethan Mishler, and Michael and EJ Mishler. Sara was a resident of Golden Living Center for the last two years. Her nephew Darryl Albright and his wife Jean of Meyersdale helped with her care for many years. Sara was a long time member of the Meyersdale Church of the Brethren. She was a member of the ladies quartet, the Greasy Spoons, the choir, the ladies fellowship and the quilting group.
