Flora Mae Gary, 68, Somerset, died Oct. 17, 2012 at Somerset Hospital. Born Dec. 22, 1943 in Meyersdale, a daughter of Marshall and Gladys (Miller) Rosenberger. Preceded in death by parents; husband Donald Hostetler; son Larry Hostetler; brothers Robert and Charles Rosenberger; and sister Catherine Rosenberger. Survived by her children: Donald Hostetler Jr., married to the former Patricia Hahn, Clearwater, Fla; Rick Hostetler and long time family friend Marvin Horning, Mentor, Ohio; Randy Hostetler and girlfriend Ricki Lee and her son Brandon, Somerset; grandson Jerry Hahn Sr.; great-grandson Jerry Hahn Jr.; brothers: Henry Rosenberger and wife Delores, Berlin; and James Rosenberger and wife Betty, Garrett; sister-in-law Elizabeth Rosenberger, Meyersdale; and special friend Glenden Sarver, Fairhope. She attended Meyersdale High School and was a retired nurse from Somerset Hospital. She attended Sarver Community Church and enjoyed crocheting, cleaning, sewing, and collecting dolls. Eugene V. Secaskey, 72, of Uniontown, formerly of Versailles and Somerset, went to be with the Lord on Oct. 17, 2012. Born Sept. 5, 1940 in Versailles, he is the son of the late William and Adeline Secaskey. He is also preceded in death by his wife Ida in 2009; stepsons Frankie and James Wilkins; and seven brothers and sisters. Eugene is survived by his daughter Pamela Wilson and fiance Roger Williams of Mill Run; step-daughter Linda Klinkner and husband John of Somerset; grandsons Dakota James Wilson, Ray Sameral, and Joshua Klinkner; granddaughters Marissa Ann Wilson and Mandy Klinkner; and three great-grandchildren. Eugene was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a very loving father and grandfather. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at 380 King Road, Mill Run, PA 15464. Dorothy K. Baker, 71, of Meyersdale, passed away Oct. 18, 2012 at Conemaugh Medical Center. Born Oct. 22, 1940, daughter of the late Ray E. and Stella (Engle) Baker Sr. Preceded in death by infant brother Donald. Survived by her brother, Ray E. Baker Jr. of Meyersdale; sisters: Margaret Gnagey, Linda Jackson of Meyersdale, and Wilma Hetrick of Salisbury; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was employed at Meyersdale Medical Center for 46 years. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the M. Ray Leckemby Funeral Home with Pastor Daniel Whitacre. Darrell J. Bittner, 87, of Meyersdale, passed away peacefully Oct. 18, 2012 at Devine Personal Care Home, Salisbury. Born June 19, 1925 in Larimer Township, the son of the late Irvin and Alberta (Miller) Bittner. Preceded in death by his wife, Thelma Mae (Irwin) Bittner; three brothers and three sisters. Survived by his children: Darrell W. Bittner and wife Bonnie, Meyersdale; Mary Lee Schmidt and husband Bill, Supply, N.C.; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was a member with Local 37 Operating Engineers, Baltimore. He worked for S.J. Grove and Sons for 32 years as a master mechanic. His most memorable job was the Jennings Randolph Lake Bloomington Dam Project. He often mentioned that the skilled people working on his staff made his job very easy and the union crafts worked together to accomplish such a great project. His special love of his life was he raised one of his son's Registered Quarter colts that he named "Chance." He always said, "Where can you go and find a stallion as tame as him?" He would drive his car back to the pasture and feed his horse bread out of the car window. Darrell enjoyed hunting, NASCAR, and traveling to Florida in the winter months. While in Florida, he would attend the Daytona 500 with his brother Slim and his very special niece, Ginny. Richard “Ricky” E. Fritz, 54, Friedens (Coal Junction), died Oct. 19, 2012, at In-Touch Hospice House, Somerset. Born Dec. 14, 1957, in Somerset, son of Richard B. and Joan F. (Barclay) Fritz. Preceded in death by father; and infant sister Stephanie Sue. Survived by mother, with whom he resided; brother Kelly B., Lincoln Township; sisters, Cherie M., Gray, and companion Dale Bailey, Stoystown, and April J., married to Tim Mishler, Jenner Township; nephews, Jeff and Roy; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. A 1975 graduate of North Star High School. He also attended Somerset Area Vo-Tech. A longtime employee of the Andy Percherke Farm. He was also a self-employed dairy farmer, school bus driver for Griffith Transportation and treated and tested water for Lloyd Environmental Services. Member of Mt. Gregory Lynn Baker, 58, Haslett, Mich., formerly of Friedens, died Oct. 18, 2012, at Sparrow Hospital, Lansing, Mich. Born July 20, 1954, in Somerset, son of Edwin and Mary (Hillegas) Baker. Preceded in death by his father-in-law Todd Brant. Survived by his parents, Friedens; wife Pamela (Brant) Baker; sons: Daniel Philip, Illinois, and girlfriend Amanda Madej, and David Andrew, married to Gabrielle (Feighner), Massachusetts; sisters: Bonnie Williams and husband Emilio, Laurel, Md.; Beth Schrock and husband Bryan, Friedens; and Melissa Reilly and fiance Mark Shaffer; mother-in-law Janet Brant; brother- and sister-in-law Kirsten and Kenny Hauger and Randy and Michelle Brant, all of Friedens; 12 nieces and nephews and three grand-nephews. Gregory was a graduate of Carnegie Mellon University and Colorado State where he attained his Ph.D. in Chemistry. After graduating, he was employed by Bell Labs in Murray Hill, N.J., and Bellcore in Redbank, NJ. Most recently he worked for Michigan State University since 1992 where he was a professor of Organic Chemistry. He spent time with his family, the local community, church, and volunteered for local food banks. He had a passion for knowledge, understanding, hard work, and service. To his friends and family he was loved. To his current and former students he was a mentor. To his peers he was a friend and respected for his research and contributions in many fields of Science. He loved to vacation in Friedens at the family cabin and go camping at Roger’s Rock campground on Lake George in New York. Friends will be received from 10 a.m. until time of service at 12 noon Tuesday at Friedens Lutheran Church the Rev. Edward V. DeVore and Bishop Gregory Pile officiating. Born June 14, 1931 in Baltimore, Md., the son of the late Clarence W. and Mildred (Bryan) Albright. Preceded in death by children, Gay Leigh Cole and Michael William Albright. Survived by his wife of 47 years, Betty (Miller) Albright; children: Wayne William Albright and wife Leslie, Colorado Springs, Colo.; Denise Marie Smearman, Martinsburg, W.Va.; Wade Lee Albright and wife Heather, Friedens; grandchildren: Michael, Amy, Kelly, Lacey, Trevor and Cameron; seven great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. Also survived by a sister, Carol Ann Janney, Del.; son-in-law: John Cole and daughter-in-law: Linda Albright. He was a member of Meyersdale Grace Brethren Church and a Scoutmaster for Troop #142. Former member of the Meyersdale Lions Club and Meyersdale Borough Council. Bill was a school bus driver for 20 years. He enjoyed fishing in the Chesapeake Bay, riding on his side-by-side, watching the Pittsburgh Steelers, and especially enjoyed his family and coffee time with the "ol' geezers." Born on Oct. 26, 1918, in Sand Patch, the eldest daughter of Elizabeth (Habel) and Harry Willard Byers. She was preceded in death by her husband James J. Lichty; brother, Willard Byers and sisters: Louise Phillippi and Doris Clapper. Survived by her five children, Gail Lichty Jinar of Centreville Md.; James (Pamela) Lichty of Reisterstown Md.; Gerald Lichty of Tamarac Fla.; Richard (Carol) Lichty of Laurel Md.; and Joseph (Josetta) Lichty of State College; 13 grandchildren Micah Jinar West, Stephanie Jinar Kelly, James Lichty, Jonas Lichty, Stuart Lichty, Melissa Lichty Villalobos, Kevin Lichty, Scott Lichty, Brian Lichty, Curt Lichty, Julie Lichty Balay, Jordan Lichty and Jessica Lichty; She was also delighted to have 16 great-grandchildren (with No. 17 on the way). Also survived by her sister Ferne (Zip) Kinter of Rockwood and brothers John (Eleanor) Byers and Blaine (Minako) Byers of Las Cruces N.M. Ricky Lee Sechler, 57, is rejoicing in heaven today after his untimely passing Oct. 22, 2012. Rick was born Sept. 9, 1955, in Meyersdale, the son of the late Blaine L. Sechler and Ann Sechler-Morris. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Audrey Mae (Deist) Sechler; and his three children: Corey  and wife Jessica, Shelbyville, Ky.; Julie and husband Jason Huston, Fairhope, and Jamie and wife Leila, Lewes, Del.; six grandchildren: Elijah, Gracyn and Mercy Sechler and Keegan, Cooper and Ellery Huston. As well as his sister Bonnie Foxwell and brother Terry Sechler. Rick and Audrey owned and operated the Laurel Sport Shop for over 20 years. Rick was a 30-year member of the Meyersdale Grace Brethren Church, where he sang in the choir and taught Sunday School. As a member of the community, Rick served as President of the Borough Council, President of the Meyersdale Renaissance program and he enjoyed serving the youth as a 4-H leader and high school shooting programs coach, where he led and mentored various riflery and archery teams. Rick also served in many volunteer positions, including most recently as the President of the Penn State Extension Board. Rick was also instrumental in initiating the AYSO program in Meyersdale. Rick will be most fondly remembered for his strong spirit, boisterous laugh and unwavering faith. He loved reading, hunting and spending time with his family and he will be remembered as a steadfast and loving husband, father and pap who kept his family at the center of everything he did. Friends will be received Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Meyersdale Grace Brethren Church, funeral will be held Friday at 10 a.m. Interment service to be held at Mt. Edward E. Berkebile, 48, Friedens, died Oct. 24, 2012, at Somerset In Touch Hospice House of Journey’s Rest. Born Aug. 14, 1964, in Somerset, son of the late Floyd E. Jr. and Gloria (Pfeifer) Berkebile. Survived by his wife of 22 years the former Lisa Gerhardt; sons: Benjamin, Douglas, and Colten, all at home; sister: Debra Buchanan, Johnstown; nieces: Rebecca and Kimberly Buchanan; father and mother-in-law George and Ricki (Caton) Gerhardt, Friedens; brothers-in-law: Michael (Brenda) Gerhardt and Christopher (Joanna) Gerhardt, all of Severn, Md.; and their children: Logan, Megan, Carter, and Cary; and faithful K9 companion, Gracie. He was a 1982 graduate of North Star High School and a 1984 graduate of Williamsport Community College, was retired from SCI-Laurel Highlands, and was a former paramedic for Conemaugh Hospital. Member of Friedens Lutheran Church, Somerset F.O.E. Aerie 1801, United Bowhunters, and Wild Turkey Federation. He was a hunter’s safety instructor and enjoyed coaching Little Eagle Football and Little League Baseball, being in the outdoors, and hunting and fishing with his sons and friends.
